The plush is perfect!
I looooved seeing the sisters together! Always want and need more of them! It’s unfortunate they always have struggles with getting along but it’s literally embedded in their history so it’s.. fitting? Oooo did not know about their goth love. I love their designs. And yes I do wish we heard more of Luna’s side. Seems Celestia takes over in both presence and the writing. Poor Luna :(
Also I love how you explained that one is adventurous and the other is more relaxing. Two different ways about fun but also telling of their personalities. I feel I’m a mix of both but definitely feel Luna’s ideas much more.
And ahhh yes! The swaning definitely felt silly but was a great foreshadow to the duties and delegating that is needed. A lot of responsibility and roles

- Some notes/thoughts/facts: -
YES! Sunset Shimmer in cute plushy flesh... 🥰
Yeah you need to relocate her, you have so much room on your bed :)
You definitely need to promote yourself more! Good step forward!
Thats one huge tortoise... it does look like the Pokemon Torterra in a way 😅
https://www.pokewiki.de/images/a/a0/Hauptartwork_389.png
- Ah, is that the one you mentioned? 😅
Mr. Tortoise-Snap? 😆 And he wants to eat - a lot! But Spike accidentally gets captured by him...
...but the Mane 6's teamwork is at its peak again! They free him in no time. I loved that quick resolution - it really shows how well they work together. It's great!
Wow.. the royal princesses are here to rescue the day (if you want it or not), that was already rescued... But hey, they finally did something 😅
Rainbow Dash: "All the times we've actually needed their help, and they show up for this?"
- took the words right out of my mouth...
Applejack: "Y'all think they're gonna be doin' this a lot?"
- definitely yes... 😏
Hm... they replaced the entire bridge instead of repairing it... Equestria's finances must be thriving!
Yep destroying the environment, because they are lost... - Pony's are more human than I thought... 😅
That must hurt a lot!

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/2/2a/Celestia_and_Luna_vigorous_hoofshake_S9E13.png
- thats a vigorous hoofshake 🤣
I get you Ed... its really fun to see them acting a bit out of their usual "royal" character. 😂
Soooo, they are just sick of staying cooped up in the castle? Hm? HMMM? - Ah... dunno where this was going 😅
6:15 Ed: "How are things still being worked on?" - Well that's explained later on: they delegate everything 😅
Princess Celestia: "Only... it's much harder to justify a vacation from the castle when it's not an emergency we're responding to."
- princesses are not permitted to go on vacation? No wonder they don't want to rule anymore... 😣
- Also... if there is an emergency, how are they able to go on vacation THEN? It's a strange implication... or I just misunderstood it 🤔
A bucket list... okay, that's unexpected to ever see from the royal sisters.
And there it is, the conflict:
Celestia wants Adventure while Luna wants relaxation...
Yeah, taking turns... and compromise... well we can all agree: this didn't last for long...
I also like their Mane-designs!

A sundial... which is able to move the sun and moon as an artefact... When exactly was the last time we saw the roal sisters moving the sun and moon themselves? I bet they used it already for a long time...
The Swanifying... seems to be a difficult topic.
Imagine just casually meeting any royalty on their vacation without bodyguards etc.
They even get their own song: "Lotta Little Things" - I like it very much.

- Trixie with her trusty wagon, possibly a showtour she is coming back from
- Silverstream with a friend of hers
- Zecora
- Gabby and Gilda
- Flim and Flam waiting for someone to pick them up
- Discord mit dem Smooze
- some changelings
- Garble and friends of his
- and Ember!
But did you see Capper the Abyssinian from the movie in the background? (10:17)
You got a good eye if u meant her:

It's an OC from the Executive Producer/Story Editor of this Series Nicole Dubuc
It feels like a S4/S5 episode because of its style, but I know what you mean by S9 episode as in an ending.
I love how Celestia is doing that - it makes me jealous!
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/d/df/Celestia_buries_herself_in_stuffed_toys_S9E13.png
- I want to do that too! And funny enough, that this came up the day you got your pluschy Sunset 😂
You recognized Trixies Dad! Bravo! 😅
Aje, Luna gets tired and wants to relax a bit, but Celestia still drags her along.
But I love that tonal Octave change!

- Extravagant much? Not anyone is able to command them like that - Would have been funny if Rainbow was also there, but she is at Canterlot... - Lucky her... isn't she? 👀
Well not so much... the Mane 6 have their own problems with the Swanifying... 😅
And Fancy Pants and his associates are surprised to see the Mane 6... How is it that they weren't informed about the princess's absence?
It might not have been the best move that Twilight send them away... 😅
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/6/6a/Twilight_Sparkle_looks_embarrassed_S9E13.png
- even her friends agree with me... and after reading the scroll about what to do...
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/8/87/Twilight%27s_friends_get_upset_with_her_S9E13.png
- Its way too hilarious! 🤣
🤣😨

- Poor Luna
Yes that hat was a Gravity Falls reference, well spotted 😁
The whole Postoffice scene was so adorable and yes Derpy Luna interaction was indeed crazy.
And you are right it truly borders on Twilight's nerdiness in excitement of small detailed things/processes 😅
80s-Luna and Emo/Goth-Celestia! I love their designs!

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/3/32/Princess_Celestia_with_goth_makeover_S9E13.png
Celestia was refered to as Emolestia/Gothlestia and was also a fan-favorite... 😅
And here we have a sibling relationship taking a sour turn as they struggle to reconcile their differences in preferences and find a compromise. But wow, their argument spiraled completely out of control - way too harsh. It got so bad that it unearthed a fundamental issue, the very one that drove Luna to become Nightmare Moon in the first place...
All meanwhile the Mane 6 have their own Problems that are piling up as they are over their head in their attempt to prepare for the Swanifying... It's getting out of hand...
Twilight Sparkle: "How does Celestia and Luna rule a kingdom and get all this done by themselves every year?!"
- A very good question... and the answer is... They delegate!
I don't know why... but I love and hate Fancy Pants here... his behavior is interesting, albeit deserved as the Mane 6 ignored and dismissed him the whole time... 😅
Twilight Sparkle: "So this is how you rule Equestria!"
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/6/67/Twilight_%22this_is_how_you_rule_Equestria%21%22_S9E13.png
- why does that look like a villain face 😅😏
Did you say "naked Luna"? - You know that Ponys are naked (well, covered in fur) most of the time right?
That's a nasty sunburn Luna has... It's funny though, that she doesn't know what sunblocker is as she is mostly active at night...
And who knew... Celestia is bad with directions... and fears chickens... - Villains would love that Info!
At least they come back together to watch the sunrise/moonset and reconcile with a very heartwarming moment. 🥰
Princess Luna: [gasps] "The sun and the moon together? At the same time?"
Princess Celestia: "Now, where have I seen that before?"
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/b/bb/Luna_and_Celestia_present_cutie_marks_S9E13.png
- hm... this would be very awkward out-of-context 🤔😅
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/2/29/Twilight_Sparkle_with_a_crazed_grin_S9E13.png
- Twilight's freak-out about the sundial was amazing!
That face of regret 😂

This episode felt like such a fun, casual follow-up to the heavier dynamics we saw in "A Royal Problem". This time, Celestia and Luna step out of their formal roles and go on vacation, and the result is a delightful bit of fan service that finally lets us see more of their sisterly side. After ruling Equestria for ages, they realized they were missing out on "real life", especially once the Mane Six started handling all the big threats, and that moment in the premiere of S90 with the Everfree Forest seemed to make them want something more exciting than just sitting in the castle. Pinkie Pie's suggestion of a vacation felt perfect - it gave them a chance to do everything they'd always dreamed of, right down to having a bucket list (which is hilarious considering they're near-immortal princesses).
What's really interesting was the contrast between Celestia and Luna's personalities once they were away from the throne. Celestia's the thrill-seeker, the one who wants to try extreme sports and soak up every new experience, while Luna's more drawn to quieter, structured activities like going to the theater or checking out the postal system. It's fun seeing them try to share each other's interests, but it also leads to that realistic sibling conflict when they can't appreciate each other's idea of "fun". The fight they have, airing old grievances and frustrations, reminded me of Luna's past resentment that turned her into Nightmare Moon. Even though they're these grand rulers, they're still sisters who fall into bickering, walk off in a huff, and then realize - through some time apart - that they need each other.
Meanwhile, the Mane Six get stuck with the Royal Swanifying, which is a pretty funny subplot that also shows just how much responsibility comes with running Equestria. They're all ready to step in for Celestia and Luna, but they hit roadblocks with the ceremony's traditions and the snags that come from not knowing every tiny royal detail. It's a big learning experience, and I love how it highlights the importance of delegating and relying on established committees or associates. And yes I agree with you, the lesson seems to be somewhat familiar, but it was extended upon to a bigger degree in a context of ruling a country instead of just relying on your friends, which makes it still valid in my opinion.
Another highlight for me was Twilight's attempts to raise the sun and moon, which was hilarious and also showcased a still lingering inexperience. It's a nice reminder that she's still growing into the role Celestia and Luna are prepping her for. The sundial comes into play here, acting as both a neat symbol of time and transition (foreshadowing the eventual passing of the torch) and a comedic device for Twilight's flubs. Part of me wishes the show had used it more to explore Equestria's celestial and magic mechanics, but it was still fun to watch Twilight struggle with something Celestia and Luna make look easy.
Overall, this episode felt like a celebration of Celestia and Luna's entire journey in the series, and I absolutely loved seeing them in ponytails, goofing off, and just living it up outside the castle. Their sibling fight was believable, and their eventual reconciliation was sweet without feeling forced. I do wish we'd seen more of Luna's perspective, as her quieter approach sometimes gets overshadowed by Celestia's big personality. But it was still fun to watch them clash, make up, and show that even ancient princesses can still butt heads over silly stuff. The song "Lotta Little Things" was a standout moment, giving the episode a road-trip vibe similar to Starlight and Trixie's "Road to Friendship", and I'm always a sucker for a catchy duet that captures the ups and downs of traveling companions.
I also appreciated how the Mane Six's subplot with the Swanifying dovetailed with this bigger theme of transition and growth. Watching them learn to rely on each other (and on Equestria's existing systems) made me feel more confident that they really are ready for the responsibilities Celestia and Luna are passing down. Even though Twilight stumbles - sometimes literally - it's part of her path toward becoming a capable leader. In the end, "Between Dark and Dawn" struck just the right balance of humor, heartfelt sibling moments, and a bit of foreshadowing for the series finale. It was definitely a treat to see the Royal Sisters out of their usual element, showing off their contrasting personalities and reminding us why we've loved them all along.

Always gotta fight 😭. But very real portrayal of their situation.
Weaker b plot but in a way it helps them see the importance of networking.
And I agree it has those shades of S5!

Fun fan service episode of celestia and Luna been waiting for an episode like this since the show started, I love seeing the sisters bonding but it’s sad to see them fight but it’s so realistic siblings definitely fight especially when it’s like big sister and little sister or big brother and little brother, but that being said they always need each other and miss each other, the b plot was a little weak but I enjoyed it, to me this is season 5 quality or at least season 4 quality, but you’re right it definitely felt like season 9!
