MLP Season 9

The final season of the adventurous and flamboyant ponies came and went. After some brilliant and confusing runs, this season turned out to be a stellar way to finish one of the world’s most nuclear and influential series to date. The main aspect of this season was with Twilght Sparkle as her spontaneous new successor to Celestia and Luna was pressuring and guiding her until the end. The season constantly puts twilight in moments. where she serves as the voice of reason and head of executive decisions with her friends and Equestria. To her not “Twilighting”, being calm and reserved, and not acting on emotion felt right. Her growth makes for those really unlikable episodes where characters suddenly regress or are difficult to have a bigger purpose. The villains were another fantastic development as their struggles and togetherness had us see the counter to friendship as we have come to know. Finally, the attention given to the young six alongside other ponyville side characters made it for them to get a proper send off and conclusion to their stories. Then we have a wonderful and epic finale where all the allies, friendships, sacrifices, and open arms all come together to give one of the most satisfying final act in animation. We follow that by a bit of an awkward timeskip as we see Twilight retell one of her students who resembles and mirrors her the events of the coronation. As a theatrical and nostalgic final song plays, we both relive and see the future Equestria flash before us. As the final page is read and the book closes, we are reminded of the journey where we once started.

Overall, while this season did have major hiccups with some of the worst rated episodes of the series and a portion of the season where many characters seem to have regressed or be flat out unlikable even if the end of episodes wrapped them up nicely, seeing all of the stories, characters, and plots interwoven and utilized was magical. Season 9 ends up being one of the best seasons of the series as it concludes and executes to the highest degree. While there could have been more exploration, for a children’s show to be able to tell their story neatly and epically is a victory on its own. This season doesn’t out do the near flawless Season 5 but it’s pretty damn close. My journey is now over and I had no idea I would get this far just from watching the pilot episode. 9-8.5/10
