Here is a full Time-lapse Video w/music for the piece: Darkwood Prince
This portrait was pretty striaghtforward but looking at the timelapse process, I noticed that I really sharpened up his features as it goes on. I like how he turned out but there is something softer about the sketch that I like as well. So I'm kind of tempted to take that sketch and have another go at making a finished piece out of it to see if a little softer of a character can come out of it.
I also went with the super blown out top down lighting again because I do really like the effect that has on artwork and it isn't too difficult to do. Basically once I have some basic form shadows in, I create a new glow layer and paint in gold highlights only on the top of the head, the tips of the (elf) ears, the nose where it pokes out and the tops of the shoulders. Everything else now looks like it is in 'shadow'. Then on another new glow layer that is on top of everything, I add the bloom by painting with an airbrush.
