Are we Consuming Content or is the Content Consuming Us? // Rewards Here

Endless scrolling.  Comforting because it numbs out emotions, consuming what makes us human.  We consume content and in turn, it consumes us.

This image came to me on this bus this morning as I was scrolling through social media.  I think most of us see this problem, and yet I don't know that we'll do anything to counteract it.  I certainly don't.

Anyway, I hope you like it!  Take a sec to drink some water and touch some grass!  Hugs!

You've represented this topic superbly! I try not to get too sucked in social media as it affects my mood and self esteem but most of my social interaction is through Twitch and Discord now so it is hard not to feel like I'm being consumed by all this , especially since I'm trying to grow an audience to earn a bit of money from my Art. The best one can do, and that is how I feel personnally, is walk away from it from time to time, say one whole day in the week or something. Easier said than done though! :P Keep up the good work! :)

Yeah, I have thought about that. I kind of see a future where you'll be wearing smart glasses and have to deal with ads and videos that pop up just randomly as you move through the world. I might be in a bit of a dystopian mindset right now though. lol xD We definitely need to take those conscious breaks from technology to be in nature.

Just wait till XR glasses are out (real soon!) And our tvs are replaced by a comfy VR headset! Calm walks in nature away from electronics will become a part of healthy living. Like exercising or eating a decent breakfast. "Did you go for your walk today?" The headset zaps you!

Thank you! Yeah, I think gaming is better then getting sucked into too much scrolling! haha

ChrissaBug

That's darn neat...and agreed...I scroll for a bit but then I escape to gaming. :D Lovely!

I think mentally distancing yourself is probably the best way to avoid getting too attached/obsessed/consumed by it. I try to always remind myself that what I see online is rarely the whole picture.

Thank you! I don't know that there is really much of a solution. I completely relate to how cutting off a social media would be really tough when you rely on it for your audience! Its one reason I have a hard time even considering it. I feel like the only solution for me is to try and be mentally more distant from the social medias that I used to be extremely invested in.

ChrissaBug

Nice! I hope you had a wonderful time by the river! It sounds lovely!

ChrissaBug

Beautiful and thought provoking! I wish I had a solution. Last year, I deleted one of my personal social media platforms, but unfortunately, as a writer, that means I've cut off a huge audience. It has, admittedly, been great for my mental health however...

Was outside for a bit and touched some grass by the river :) Now I'm listening to your latest Q+A^^

Thank you so much! I'm glad that it resonates!

ChrissaBug

Wow I definitely resonate with this. I think it’s such a good opening question too along with a lovely piece! Can’t wait to see more of it :)
