Elven Mystic//Timelapse Video

Here is a full Time-lapse Video w/music for the  piece: Elven Mystic

I feel a deep connection to this piece right now.  Maybe it's that the wheel of seasons is finally turning towards autumn, which invites that interesting combination of eerie, mystical and cozy vibes.  This piece was done specifically for the new Draw this in your style challenge that I'm hosting on deviantart this month.  The original prompt was super broad: Dark and Mystical.  But that ended up being perfect for the vibes that I have been really craving lately.

Because I resonated with the feeling of this piece, I feel that it came together pretty naturally.  Even the lighting, which can kind of trip me up when working with something like a candle, worked out pretty simply.

The way I approached the lighting in this piece was trying to keep it simple and in layers.  First I tried to get a basic lighting from the front of the character, before worrying about the candle.  And once I felt like the base form and shading was working, I then felt more comfort and ease adding in the warm glow from the candle light on the side of the character's face.

That's so cool! I've been playing around with AI art too and I found it super helpful when approximating a famous artist's art style too, its such good shorthand! Thanks for the reply :-D

So glad you liked it! Yeah, so when I worked on this piece I had been trying out AI art earlier that day to see what it was all about. And while I didn't love any of final AI products, I did like some of the color schemes that it put out, so I grabbed on of the generated pieces and just blurred it a bunch for the background of this piece. Kind of similar to method that I show with photos in the background hacks tutorial here on patreon.

This was very inspiring to watch, thank you! I was wondering: in the beginning, when you set the colour scheme, you put something in the background and then blurred it? Is this a method you like to use to quickly get some colours in? I thought that was quite ingenious :D
