Hello lovelies! Happy Sunday! 🌟
I'm so excited to share with you this traditional piece. As I mentioned in the last Q&A video, one of my goals moving forward is to try and work on at least 1 traditional piece a month to give myself a chance to expand and experiment with different mediums.
But I tend to have a problem with traditional art outside of a casual sketch, where I will look at a nice piece of paper or canvas and my mind will go blank. No ideas come that I feel like I can put down on the paper. 😕
So to get over that and jump right into it, I decided, why not take a digital piece that I really like and try doing it traditionally? 🎨 It gives me a confident place to start from since I know I have already drawn the piece before and I liked it. That allows me to JUST focus on getting used to working with the traditional medium. 🖌️
One of my favorite art to date is the darkwood/Mörkwood Fae. 😍 My first instinct was to jump immediately into trying out some sort of paint. 🎨 But then I saw colored pencils sitting out from when I was testing them on the most recent coloring page, and it hit me. 💡
Why not start your traditional journey with a medium that you are more familiar with, is cleaner, and easier to control? Why not take a smaller step so that you don't give up part way through? So that's what I did, and I am SO happy I did.
Tools:
As I began coloring with my old colored pencils (I have had some of the pencils in this collection since my middle school years!) I felt a bubble of that kid-like joy that comes from creating for the hell of it. 🎉 I had little flashbacks of when I was younger and colored pencil drawings were my main cup of tea. It was like meeting up with and collaborating with an old friend you haven't seen in over 15 years but when you meet up it's like no time has passed at all. 🤗
Anyway, I am rambling a bit, so please excuse me. I just find working with these traditional mediums to be such a fun journey with each artwork.
When it comes to the actual process of working, colored pencils are all about building up color layer by layer and then eventually blending them together. I did find the dark blue background to be a little tedious, so I think the next time I work with colored pencils, I will start with doing something like a watercolor or gouache wash as a base for the background, instead of relying only on colored pencils. 🎨

Rewards for this piece (attached to bottom of post):
All rewards and downloads from this patreon page are for personal and educational use only. Redistributing in any form is not permitted. I'm a relatively small artist who puts a lot of work into sharing this work and providing as much value in these rewards as I can and when they are taken and used for unauthorized purposes it hurts me and my ability to provide for myself and my cat. Thank you for supporting and respecting independent artists <3
