Sigyn, a goddess of enduring love and sacrifice, who embodied the essence of loyalty that transcended even the darkest depths of betrayal.
Hello my dears!! Since I drew Loki last month, I thought it was about time to try visualizing his wife Sigyn as well! I would eventually like to do a piece of them together, depicting the famous myth of her holding the bowl above him to catch the snake's venom. But first, a fun portrait of her to get a feel for her character!
I imagine that Sigyn must have incredible endurance and inner strength. I wish we had more myths that mentioned her, but she is mainly known for the one story where she stays with Loki after/during his punishment at the hands of the Aesir.
Here is a quick and rough summary of the myth for those that don't know it:
After Loki's involvement in the death of Baldur, which led to his imprisonment by the other gods, Sigyn remained loyal to him. When Loki was bound by the entrails of one of his sons as punishment, Sigyn stayed by his side, holding a basin to catch the venom dripping from a snake placed above him. The venom caused excruciating pain to Loki, and Sigyn's presence alleviated some of his suffering, although she could not entirely prevent it.
I hope you like her!
