A little about the art

When I first started considering how to tackle this card, I wanted to be careful not to just copy the original. But of course I still wanted the same symbolisms and idea. The original Four of Swords tarot is of a person or a knight lying in a tomb with three swords hovering above him while the 4th sword sits at the base or on the side of his tomb. There is also a stained glass window.

I decided it would be interesting and suite my stile to try and draw a character that we are looking down at as they slumber. I have always loved the aesthetic of sleeping beauty so I wanted some of that feeling to be interwoven into this piece. But of course SHE is some sort of warrior and still wears her armor and loosely holds her sword, as if she dozed off while on guard.

When trying to decide what to do with the background within the frame, I remembered the stained window in the original tarot card. Inspired by stained glass, I tried to make the circular part of her frame look as if it is stained glass or at least hints at it. How is she lying on stained glass? I'm not totally sure. Maybe some sort of very cool stained glass floor? Who knows, all that matters is that it looks cool! haha
