These portraits, in total, took months from start to finish because of all the feedback and approvals I needed throughout the process. I had expected the project to be fairly simple (just a few portraits!).. but it became much more involved.
It was definitely a learning experience and taught me not to underestimate a portrait! Even if you think portraits are your comfort zone, they are also something that we can be really critical of because they are so close up, and we want to make sure they look just right! I no longer hold the view that portrait commissions should be quick, easy, and less expensive. Haha!
But because the whole process took so long, it is exciting for me to see the timelapse like this. Months of work put together in 11 minutes!
These portraits have their rendering pushed a bit further than I normally do for my personal work. It was kind of the nature of the project and the desired style. So there is a lot more painting over much of the lineart and blending shadows in the coloring stage!
You'll also be able to see close to the end of the process where I ended up adjusting a lot of her facial features, particularly around her eyes, eyebrows and nose. That was me responding to some feedback!
Anyhoo! Happy watching!
