✨New Art//Linh (Keeper of the Lost Cities Commission)

Ahh! Here is lovely Linh! She controls water and is Tam's twin sister!

It was interesting working on her because she flowed quite easily at first, but then when we (me and the author) sent the complete version to the publisher, they came back with a bunch of facial changes that had me going back and repainting some features. It was a little odd that so many changed came back when versions prior to shading had been approved, but I guess there were just things that were revealed after shading that they hadn't noticed before!

Anyhoo I hope you like how she turned out You can scroll through the images to see the sketches, lineart and previous versions!

Here is the post where the Author revealed her portrait: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-2-BEGPJsD/

Since this is a commercial commission, I can't include all of the downloadable files that I normally would, but I put together some of the sketch images and iterations so you can see the progress. 📸✏️

I think it kind of depends. From what the author told me, in the past she would just commission stuff and they would be like "cool!" But now that the series is more popular and established, any commissioned art needs to be signed off on by a bunch of people on the publishing team. I've been commissioned directly by the publisher before and in instances like that I'm communicating with the art director and she gets approval from the author. So I think its just a case where EVERYONE needs to be happy with the results. haha

Thank you so much!

The publisher is who decides on the designs and not the author? I didn't expect that! Is it because they (in theory) understand what will sell best?

Sarah

Lovely! Such a nice smile. Nicely done!

For sure! I think I have really leaned into warmer tones the past couple years. She controls water, so I'm glad that the cooler tones are coming through on this one!

Thank you so much!

That wasn't a critique btw! I honestly hadn't even really noticed until I was writing the comment haha

Roy

Wow! Awesome work!

EffDee

Woahh, she's cool! I like her a lot, I feel like she has a bit of a 'cooler' feel than most of your pieces (usually warmer/more nature-y toned? Minus Mist of course) and I'm digging it!
