This is borderline vent art for me. -- Dr. Spiral isn't meant to be a serious character. I have fun drawing her. However given how particular I am about her facial features it was still painful to learn that there were people who were mad at me for making her "ugly"
Again. Dr. Spiral isn't meant to be serious but I realized I was feeling the exact same emotions I have during those times when I was told that I wasn't welcome in queer spaces because I wasn't white or because I wasn't a cat-eared twink. Those of you who've followed me on Twitter and Bluesky will know how much this stuff fucks me up.
The sad part is that acceptance wasn't given to me, I had to change, and by the time I realized I was changing, I no longer wanted the approval of those who gate kept me. I'd grown sick of being yelled at by everyone, all the time, for every little thing, and so I set my focus on getting better.
I make terrible art and I want to get better at it. Jordan and Derrick are degenerate perverts who can combine to create a spark-rainbow abomination. But its an abomination they can get better at.
So I had my little pity party, read the room, and decided to enhance Spiral's look. Still ugly sure. but a bit more polished, and a bit more demure—kind of like someone who wasn't good or knowledgeable about something, and needed time to practice and improve at applying their makeup.
