The Orbital song = A+

2020k RJ Kozain

Two thoughts: 1) Having the character stare straight at the audience when asked if he trusts the person in the closet is a wild choice. I love fourth wall abuse and wonder what this says about us, the audience who follows you for these stories. 2) In the last frame, I started leaning in to get a better look at whoever was in the closet, then stopped when I realized that the comic is animated and I was just setting myself up to get scared out of my chair if you decided to do a jump scare lol. So uh, no, I guess I do not trust the person in the closet, who may or may not be me.

I’ve seen this full comic before. Love it. But right now, sitting in my baby’s darkened nursery, browsing comics while waiting for babe to fall deeply asleep, I cannot bring myself to scroll to the last frames. Nope. Too scary.

Ok, I LOVE this one. I have SO many thoughts and questions and theories and I want to talk about ALL of them. So hell yeah, let's go, prepare for a Very Long comment. Wait, actually, I'll get into After I compliment the art, bc it is fantastic. Some of my favorite work from Adam. Naomi has an excellent design. I like how expressive her face and body language is. Right from the start you can already get a sense of her personality just by her expression and posing in that first page. Sometimes Adam's characters will all have the same kind of perpetually large eyes, and there are times where the look doesn't quiiiite match up with the mood or feeling in that moment, but Naomi's eyes are perfect in reflecting everything she feels. Plus, they're just straight up beautiful. I especially like her hair, also quite beautiful haha. Her hair, combined with her piercings/jewelry and clothes, all of it contributes to that instant feeling of knowing her. Oh, and the black nails! Black nail polish is a quick and easy way to say a whole lot with very little. Putting a name tag on Naomi's water bottle is also such a clever way of telling us her name ....until I realized her name is right there in her chat messages. All that zooming in and squinting for nothing LOL. But it also gave me a chance to look at all her laptop stickers, and now I wish they were real stickers! Perhaps an idea for some merch in the future?  I mean, I am writing this on a laptop that's covered in stickers in every possible place... I also think it's cool that they adhere to a color scheme. I also love the lighting here. The glare reflecting onto her face, and the darkness caused by the storm make for a great atmosphere, especially with that cool little pop of animation.  Of Course, the story itself is Excellent, so unnerving. As soon as I read page 7, I felt this sickly, unsettled nervousness. And with each page turned, the dread just builds and builds. Obviously by then you know what's coming, but I also Did Not Want To Know, but ALSO I JUST HAD TO KNOW!! Good friggin Loord, that... thing is so creepy; I straight up shuddered when I saw it. I have real legit diagnosed paranoia, and one of my biggest paranoias is that constant, nagging feeling that someone is always watching me. I'm on edge every time I turn around, look in a window, open a door, or look in a mirror bc I am terrified of what might be there. I have to have my back against the wall at all times. I even have to leave my closet door open at all times so I can be sure nothing's in there. So, uh, yeah. YEAH. This one really really gets to me. AND NOW. Onto the ridiculous overly-intense analysis of every detail I can think of. Gonna be clear and upfront that I am in no way claiming that everything I say is the real, intended truth and that I totally know what I'm talking about and I am 100% correct about all of it and anyone who disagrees belongs with that creepy Thing in the closet.. And speaking of the closet, time to break down why I think Naomi was responsible for a girl's suicide. It started with bullying her in person but eventually evolved to include cyberbullying in some of the worst ways. Cyberbullying specifically because of how pretty much all of the action is on her laptop, with her room decor adding some extra detailing. So immediately we know something's up by how Naomi reacts to receiving this particular email. She gives off the impression that she's annoyed by who the email is from, even viewing it with contempt. But she also immediately assumes the account was hacked, implying that there's no way the email could come from the original owner of the account. A DM from a friend assumes the email is spam, another confirmation that the email can't have been sent from the account's Actual owner. The next friend says something about a "her" being found in a closet. Naomi also has someone's obituary open on her computer, so it's pretty easy to connect that this email account and the obituary are from the same "Her." The third friend then says, "This is your fault, you know," inferring that Naomi holds some sort of responsibility for this girl's death, but not that she did the Actual killing. Later on, when she checks her email, she has one from the same friend that says, "Murderer." Keeping in mind the girl was found in her closet, it's worth mentioning that an unfortunately common rmethod of suicide is to hang one's self from the bar in their closet. So yeah, just gonna just go ahead and conclude that her friends know that Naomi tormented this girl so horribly that it pushed her over the edge into committing suicide. There are few other elements on Naomi's screen, one of which is an open game of Roller Coaster Tycoon, a game where you build your own roller coasters and amusement parks. Everyone knows that calling a story a "roller coaster", long with similar phrases like "that story was a wild ride" or "that gave me emotional whiplash," is shorthand for how crazy, shocking and unexpected the story is, which makes for great foreshadowing for what we're about to read. It's also a ride designed specifically to scare the shit out of you, a nod both to how Naomi must have made this girl feel and for how Naomi is going to feel by the end of this comic. By specifically using a game where you create your own coasters and rides, it's reinforcing that Naomi actively, purposefully made the choices that she made. Now this next part might be me reading too into it, but... yeah, whenever I played RCT, I wrecked absolute havoc. I'd make coasters where the tracks suddenly ended, sending everyone crashing into a huge fiery explosion.  I was a cruel maniac of an 8 year old, but maybe Naomi did something similar. Maybe she taunted The Girl to actually kill herself. "You'd be better off dead, no one likes you, just kill yourself already" are things my own bullies said to me a LOT. Maybe Naomi dared the girl to get on one of those deadly coasters, so to speak. It wasn't an accident, it wasn't just one or two pranks, or your average typical bully shit. She "designed" with purpose and intent the "ride" that led to the girl's death, and with that, the consequences that come with it. And RCT being a digital game specifically, I think that's another nod to cyberbullying being the main weapon of choice. Also on Naomi's desktop is a picture of a girl, but only her eyes are visible. There's a focus on them when you see her desktop for the first time and when the quiz asks her if she gets scared easily. These eyes are from the same image as the Perfect Blue poster behind her. The inclusion of the Perfect Blue poster does a LOT of lifting. It's a horror movie and in it, an actress named Mima is a victim of a stalker who writes diary entries pretending to be her to publish online. Already a great connection as cyberbullying can be a form of stalking, but when it comes to what Types of cyberbullying were involved this gives me a Lot of ideas. One might be that the girl was chronicling/venting about what Naomi was doing to her and when Naomi found out, that's when she started terrorizing her online too. Alternatively, Naomi was writing posts pretending to be the victim to spread lies and rumors to make fun of her. OR Naoimi did find her actual real journal and started publishing it publicly as another means of embarrassing her. One of the other emails Naomi had in her inbox was from Tumblr congratulating her on having two new followers. This tumblr account could relate to any of the theories I just mentioned; it could the tumblr Naomi made to pretend to be the girl, one made to anonymously expose personal information about the girl, or it's Naomi's own personal tumblr, used to harass the girl directly and/or to do things such as mock what she posts, spread embarrassing information, etc. Tumblr being mentioned at all just reinforces my theory that a lot of the harassment was cyberbullying. Since the email says she has two new followers it's pretty easy to say that one of them is the presence/ghost itself. That thing is Not about to leave her alone anytime soon. Maybe the second follower is meant to represent the fear and paranoia Naomi will very soon be experiencing after seeing her own photo; like I said earlier, paranoia like that follows you everywhere. Or hey, maybe it is just some normie rando following the account because Naomi's actions continue to embarrass the girl as people still follow and her tumblr. Once you put it online, it's out there forever. One detail that was particularly unsettling for me was from page 3, where the Perfect Blue poster is behind her, positioned just so, the eyes are literally, exactly right over her shoulder, hovering there like they're not just staring at Naomi, but also at the reader. God 9t freaking creepy; there were some truly brilliant choices made here. Highlighting Just the eyes both on Naomi's screen and behind her makes it clear that she is now being watched by this presence at all times no matter where she is. Each action is observed, there's no place to hide and no way of escaping it. Her victim could have just as easily felt the same way, like every move could be exploited, there was no place safe for her to drop her guard. When my bullying was at its worst, there were points where I'd just shut down entirely, knowing that no matter what I did my bullies could find a way to use it against me. Going back to the actual story of Perfect Blue, there's something in there that might point to one of the specific things Naomi did to attack her victim. Mami, as an actor, accepts a role that involves filming a rape scene. It is unfortunately very common for bullies to spread extremely personal and vulnerable pictures and videos of their victims, such as hacking into their phone (or email!) to steal nude/sexual pics, taking photos/videos when the person is changing or showering in the locker room, even coaxing them to send explicit content to a crush when really it's being sent to someone else who's in on the "prank." Which could be another purpose of that hypothesized Tumblr account. Could be it was made to catfish the girl, get her to think someone liked her and convince her into sending personal information, pictures, and videos. Tumblr's whole appeal is how easy it is to share and circulate posts widely and really is the ideal platform for this sort of thing. (At least, before the adult-content ban lol.) But hey, it looks like it's now Naomi's turn to be photographed in vulnerable settings without consent. Side note, things with this many moving parts are usually orchestrated by a group of friends, not just one person single handedly. Is it possible Naomi's friends were in on it? Or did they just watch and let it happen? Maybe they were all for it at the start, but started feeling hesitant when they realized just how far off the rails things were becoming, how cruel Naomi was getting. Well, either way, involved or not, if they knew about it that'd make Lucas one hell of a hypocrite. Anyway, the other posters have connections too. One is from Final Fantasy VII, a game that involves the death of a young girl which, from what I've heard, left everyone pretty wrecked. But also this is where my knowledge of Final Fantasy begins and ends, so, lol. But I'm sure there's more to this one than I know. If anyone wants to educate me, I'd love that. Anyway, it being a video game once more nods at digital formats being important in this story. Poster three is from Vertigo, a famous mystery-horror movie. That could be enough all on its own. But vertigo is also an illness that can come on at times of extreme stress, like an injury, panic attacks, fear, all of which are felt when being bullied. Vertigo can also be a result of choking and suffocating, which is another hint at hanging being the mode of suicide. It's framed right over Naomi in the panel she looks at her closet in shocked fear; Maybe Naomi startin' to feel some vertigo herself? Or at least she will be once she realizes just how fucked she is.  (Btw! That yellow hat on the closet shelf? Looks an awful lot like the titular hat in "My Yellow Hat." It's another one of Adam's comics - an excellent one at that - that features the spirit of a young person with a tragic, untimely death, who then leads someone to something important. Except in that comic, it's the spirit of a loved one who wants to help, not an vengeful victim acting in anger.) Then comes the final movie poster and I am actually really proud of myself for figuring this one out! I had no idea what it was from and it was hard for me to make out the letters, but I can say with confidence that this poster is from the 1995 movie "Hackers." Got ourselves another crime thriller. Obviously I know nothing about it, but just from a quick look we have hacking, crime, high schoolers, the internet, etc. You get it lol. The final decorations are some license plates up on her wall. Blue ones from New York and white ones from somewhere else, though I can't make it out. I decided to be an absolutely insane person and googled the only fully visible plate characters, and it looks like "KS" is commonly used in Kansas plates. It reminded me of an unfortunate case of cyberbullying where a young girl literally moved across the country (for unrelated reasons, tbf) and the bullies from her last school continued to harass her over Facebook. So, not the girl's literal plates, but just another thing they might be pointing to. That said, I think they could be actual plates Naomi's family had at one point. When my family moved as a kid I put my folks' old plates on the wall. Going with the theory that Naomi's family moved, I have two ideas-ish for why. Now, it's very possible they moved the first time for normal reasons - maybe one of her parents got a job offer or they wanted to be closer to family. If her family moved, it may be that Naomi had to start using the internet to continue harassing the girl if. Or maybe they moved and the student was from her new school and instead of handling her resentment and anger about moving like a big girl, she took it out on one of her new classmates. My other idea is that maybe they moved to escape the notoriety. To get away from their hometown where everything happened. Gossip would be going crazy, press hounding the family for interviews or photos... I have heard of this happening before, where the perpetrator and/or the victim's family moved somewhere else to "start over." There is a folder on her computer labeled "Summer." Regardless of the why, maybe they moved over summer and the photos are from the last summer with her friends. Maybe that's why she's DMing and emailing her friends, it's now the only way they can talk to each other.  The other folder on her desktop is "School shit." I don't have much for this one other than reading it as another hint that this happened at their school. Could also infer that Naomi is now learning remotely, possibly bc no school wants a cyberbullying suicide-causing student wandering around. Or maybe it's another way to avoid the infamy - press and rumors can't find her at school if she isn't there. One of Naomi's other emails shows 13 messages between her friend Becks, subject like "Ughhhh." It starts as "I think people just-" before it's cut off. Sounds like Naomi's been complaining about something - could be about, well, Everything. Having to move, leaving school, the gossip and rumors and whatever else the news and other people around must be saying about her... There's also the likelihood she's lost most of her friends along the way; possibly, all she has left are the ones in the DM and emails. What if they were her original friends at her old school before she moved away one summer, or they could be the first New friends she made at the new school, they might be the friends who are sticking up for her, who say she's not a bad person, she just made "a mistake." (Though it looks like Lucas might be turning on her.)  With everything going on, that could be the reason she says she's been alone a lot lately. One last detail from her computer - she's listening to electronic music, specifically a song with a very ethereal, sort of haunting vibe to it, which appears in Mortal Kombat. Y'know, the video game about fighting people to (sorta) death. Y'know! That game! It's also used in fuckin MEAN GIRLS and I'm pretty sure everyone knows that movie is nothing But high school girls being nasty and bullying everyone. A ton of great memes and references have come from it, but it is especially wildly infamous from a pretty epic sequence where pages from a private journal full of cruel and nasty rumors is publicly shared with everyone at the school. E v e r y o n e. I also just learned that it's used in Hackers too, so, just a really great way to pull everything together. Adam seriously knocked it out of the park with his story building. This also feels like a good place to point out that music, games, movies, and The Internet are all common forms of escapism from the "real world." This last part is just a weird thing that isn't exactly related to the story and moreso just applies to me, but growing up, I was always hovering over my siblings' shoulders as they played games. Sometimes I had permission to do so, I would watch them play the game, though of course they'd never let me have a turn to actually play it myself lol. But sometimes I hovered without permission, which is just creepy and annoying. Tbf tho, they also did it to me alllllll the time. and MAN did I hate it so much. This is part of why I now always have to have my back to a wall and need to be able to see all the doors and windows in a room so I know who's in that room with me. Idk, the Perfect Blue poster lingering over Naomi's shoulders reminded me of the feeling, and it really is an unsettling experience. Another random note I just want to throw out there is that someone's "safe space" - especially when they're a kid - should be their own bedroom. But for this girl, her bedroom became the most dangerous place for her, hanging herself in the closet because she couldn't take it anymore. And that is something I just... relate way too closely to. At the very least, it appears Naomi is in her own bedroom, which surely now suddenly feels very, very Unsafe. On that last page when she sees that photo of herself, right behind it on her desktop continues to be one very large eye, looking right at her. Btw, "Naomi" means "pleasant" and "gentle." Was this done on purpose? Am I just being insane? Probably. It's like 5am as I finish writing all this. Gonna wait to post it once it's normal people time and can edit it and all. But yeah, those are all the details I caught and the thoughts I had and man did I just Love this comic. It feels like a successor to Hello Charlie, another one of Adam's comics that has a very similar ending.

Green

Why do I feel like that ghostly character in the closet looks like a Jojo-fied version of Knuckles lolol

Obituary in the background of the computer, texts and emails calling Naomi a murderer, message saying they found "her " in the closet (same "her" sending the emails presumably)... seems like someone is out for revenge

Gabi O

SO GOOD

Gossamerskin!

Rather than a monster I thought we'd see a flash with a ghostly image of the kid himself hanging there or something. Like the whole 'dead and din't realize it' trope. Or some form of creature that was a litteral 'identity thief'.

Drakin Kovar

Final Fantasy 7 poster 💙

Victoria Lo

read the screens! there's a portion of an obit, some messages suggesting there was a girl that died, found in her closet and another one that says "it's ur fault..." suggesting she bullied this dead girl

Richard Eng

Love this one

Sophie G-W

That was spooky, dude. I can’t go to bed yet 👀

didsomeonesaybuffet

becks: “they found her in the closet, but..”

Catherine Eng

i love the detail in adam’s comics! probs why i love them so much lol

Catherine Eng

Amazing

Meghan

Omgggggg the last panel ugh 💀💀💀

Emily Jane

I'm so glad I was already pooping while reading this...

Billy (aka siatabiri)

Can’t do it with all of his comics. As he says himself, not all of the stories are his own creation, but are credited to Reddit Horror stories.

Ratman

Yea and if you look at her tabs it’s an obituary for someone, someone saying “they found her in the closet”, someone saying “it’s your fault”. And the question asking her if she’s sorry for what she did, makes it sound like the person the email came from is dead and their ghost blames Naomi

Elizabeth Beishline

Excellent. No surveys tonight.

Howard J.

Man, just read it in my bed in the dark….thanks Adam 🙃

Dario Giorgi

Why did I zoom in 😆😪👻 Your comics have to be turned into an anthology show one day.

JR S

WHAT DID NAOMI DOOOOO and I wonder why the ghost of this person is so concerned about trust 👀

Amber

So creepy!

Dani

Love the details here. “They found her in the closet.” Lucas blaming Naomi for the recent death….

prettypinkcryptid

Uh oh someone order a predator to your house

Hultajec

Bringme2life@hotmail.com - the details are always so good

Lumi

SO GOOD.

Rose Cale

Can we talk about the stickers on that laptop, though? Are those for real? There's so much going on there!

Kevin Vognar

Between the Perfect Blue and Vertigo posters there are some interesting implications about how the friend died and what Naomi had to do with it 👀

PoeRaven

Gorgeous as usual 🥰

Lee

Never open links from email addresses you don’t trust 🤓

carolina guerzoni

If you didn't turn your brightness up on that last slide, go look again!!

Alanis Harris

I feel real dumb but I don't get it. Because the photo is from the POV of the closet? (I did finally see the ghost shadow in the closet, took me a sec.)

Ilana

Why did i read this right before bed when i knew the content of this Mail would make it impossible to sleep after? 🥲

Saskia

now why would I zoom in?? 😱

Kristen Johnson

It's the ghosts of all the people she killed in Rollar Coaster Tycoon deleting land and letting them drown

Megan Brannon

Whoooooof. Loving the details from zooming in on the chat windows in the early panels. Getting Hell Girl vibes almost, with the "bullying victim getting even from beyond the grave" thing going on :D

Badger!

Halcyon, roller coaster tycoon, “school shit”. That desktop is too real.

John Mogensen

Also - I think Lucas might have something to do with it. He's the one that said "this is your fault you know", and she has an email from him titled "Murderer". Love these little bits in the background that add to the story

Cecil McGillicutty

I used to take quizzes like this on quizilla and I low key miss them LOL But maybe not after reading this

Vixie

Which are they?

Dan

Steve the closet demon is dedicated to being what my grandfather would have called "a wind-up merchant", and I'm kinda here for it

Amy T

Come on Evanescence reference tucked in

V_is_for_

Dude. I love the extra story deets hiding in the other screens on the laptop 👏👏👏

Sarah Sarah

Okay so the text messages & obituary on the screen make me think that her friend(?) hung themselves in the closet, and she did something to cause it, and now they're haunting her as revenge

Cecil McGillicutty

Oh this one was fun

Gelasia Diafygis

I’m wrong, ya’ll hadn’t loaded yet. Blep.

Alight

Nothing better than seeing the notification from Patreon and reading one of your wonderful horror stories. Never gonna take a personality test again, btw.

First!

Alight

What’s wrong with Steve the closest demon? I mean, he does have poor posture but don’t we all?

The_Sheriff_Lord

“Someone must have hacked *her* email” That has some interesting implications

Matthew Gem

Ok but this is a brilliant quiz idea for spooky season
