2024-07-11 15:14:22 +0000 UTCMan, I've seen this scene alone so many times and I started choking up again. One thing about DBZ is the subtle things. When vegeta asked Piccolo if he'll see Goku in the otherworld, Piccolo responds with "Here's the truth" And they show a close up of Vegeta doing the slightest eye wince. This shows even before Piccolo could tell him No, he knew just from that first line that his suspicion was confirmed.. This would be the end for him completely. No afterlife. And inspite of that...He walked right into Buu and Nuked the both of them for the sake of his loved ones. Man... Cinema. I will say, a Flaw that Vegeta made was assuming he was entirely evil. As if he was born that way to be ruthless and uncaring. But as far back as even Nappa's fight with the other guys, there were scenes where Vegeta would yell out "Watch out Nappa!" Or warn him of danger. That was basically his guardian since he was a kid. He had a base level of care for him. Yes for the most part he used him as a bodyguard of sorts, but he mainly killed him because as a Saiyan Prince, he was dissapointed that Nappa - A saiyan Elite - was beaten by a low class saiyan. That's just the ruthlessness of how Warrior saiyans were originally on planet Vegeta. The fact that Vegeta could turn good over the years, The earth didn't make him that way...All it did was expand on the good he already had inside him (even if it was just a little). That's the flaw Vegeta made, he assumed that he was Pure evil and that just wasn't the truth. Even with the Goku fight a few episodes ago... Yeah he talks about beating him, but the truth is that Goku has always been 1 step ahead, I think for Vegeta's character... He just needed to know that he could hang with him in a fight and that Goku wasn't ahead of him all the time ( 😬 IYKYK) but yeah... What a character man.

2024-07-10 13:10:48 +0000 UTCSelf improvement is the core theme of DragonBall. Bettering oneself in some way through struggle. This is why I think that self sacrifice hardly ever amounts to anything in terms of defeating the enemy. When they kill themselves, they can no long improve so it kind of goes against the theme. I think about how many times a character sacrificed themselves. It adds to the drama and made for good moments for them, but never actually saved the day ultimately. Just a thought.
