So there is actually 5 timelines all together. here is a breakdown: Timeline 1 The main story takes place in this timeline, where Future Trunks and Cell arrive from their respective futures. Timeline 2 The original timeline, where Future Trunks comes from. Timeline 3 The timeline where Cell comes from, and where he goes back in time to kill Trunks and steal his Time Machine. Timeline 4 The timeline where Trunks from Cell's original timeline goes back in time to destroy the androids. The original timeline The timeline where Future Gohan comes from, where events are different from the main series.
