Bits and pieces... (0.1.9 status and other stuff)

this post is to inform you about the "lesbian content" poll result and to talk about the status of the update to 0.1.9.

Poll results "lesbian content":

Only 4% voted that they would like to be able to avoid lesbian content entirely.
The vast majority either want to have more lesbian content (56%) or are not disturbed by such content (40%).
What does this mean for game defvelopment?
It means that I won't go out of my way to implement something that makes it possible to avoid all lesbian content in the game. But I will still give a hint that lesbian content follows when there is a choice. This will be done for all new lesbian content and when I have time for existing scenes as well (where possible).
New lesbian content will be added in a similar fashion and frequency as before.

Status on upate to 0.1.9

Some of you are probably wondering why the update is taking so freaking long to finish.
I will try to explain some of the major reasons and talk about the plan when it will finally be ready.

• There will be more than 650 new high res renders added. A lot of them are done in the nightbar. Due to the relative darkness, walls, glass and bottles, render times are very high for these renders.
• Some of the game meachanics will be fundamentally changed starting with Amy. At the same time, since it's impossible to have the new logic for all girls at the same time, I had to make sure that the old and new system can work in parallel.
• I invested a lot of time to make the game look better. You will get an improved new UI, much sharper looking images on your phone, the wet-t contest and during all the basic interactions. (The above image is a screenhot from the wet-t contest).
• Being able to adjust the game resolution up to 1920x1080 proved to be a lot harder than I first thought. The android version crashed whenever you try to load/save or open the preferences. Took me a lot of time to figure out the reason.
• Having sharper preview images on the phone resulted in a major performance hit whenever you opened the phone. It was so bad, even on my system, that I couldn't keep it that way. So what I did was to have renpy get the resolution for every image when you started a game or when an update was made. Since this takes about 30 seconds on  a fast PC and more than a minute on my phone, this wasn't the way to go either. In the end, I came up with an acceptable compromise. When you open an achievement page for a girl for the first time in a game ro after the save has been updated to a new version, it will be a little slow (depending on the amount of content, between half a second and 2 seconds). After that the phone will react a lot faster than in older versions.
• There are a ton of new quests that all had to be created and integrated into the game. All the states and rewards have to be managed.
• In addition to the 650 new high res images, a lot of character base, walk, etc. images have been upgreded to double resolution webp format as well.
• The game has been prepared to better handle overlay images with different solutions when they are all in webp format. This was necessary to allow image compression of most of the png images in the character folder. Due to the image format changes, the game is now roughly 150MB smaller than the last version, without any visible loss of quality.
• After the typical bug fix update to 0.1.9.1, you can expect another content update to 0.1.9.2, before moving on to 0.1.10 or 0.2.0 (I haven't decided that yet).

Last but not least, when will it be available?
I'm still not 100% sure about that. I need to render about 20 more images, finish Natasha's scene, create Jennifer's new poker scene and finish Amy's max affection level 5 quest. Then I have to update the achievements for these as well.
I already did a lot of testing, but the changes are so many, that I don't want to do a public release before giving it to some beta testers.
I won't have much time on the week, but if all goes well, I can send it out for beta testing next week. If all goes well, you can expect the release date somewhere around 23 . or 24. of november.
The android release will be some days later, because I can't do incremental updates for android. So the next android version will be a hopefully stable 0.1.9.1.
