The Fixer next steps

The public release for part one of the flatmate update is round the corner and I think it’s a good time to talk about what’s in store for the next update of the Fixer.

Being that this update is flatmate pt1 it would make sense to assume the next update will be flatmate pt2. While not entirely false, I am constantly encountering a much more pressing issue when it comes to adding in new events and scenarios. Namely the lack of street prostitution.

The most recent hurdle where I have encountered this was with the Robin party event where Sammy invites Robin to go to the bar with her and they meet some guys to flirt with. It’s not possible to complete this event chain due to lack of the prostitution events being in.

The same with being invited home with some guy while working the pub, the dance quest storyline, riding the bus and meeting someone and inviting them for more fun… The list goes on and on.

So with that in mind, the next update will heavily prioritise street prostitution events. That’s not to say other things won't be worked on as there is still a lot of cleaning up I need to do on the flatmate pt1 update. But it will take heavy priority.

SPOILERS FOR STORY CONTENT

Being a street prostitute is about as low as anyone can go in the world of The Fixer. Even a Gamine origin Sammy will shy away from doing it. It is probably the current day equivalent of a crackwhore so I need to give Sammy a little incentive to do such a job.

The quest will start out with Mira going missing and Cass approaching Sammy asking if she knows anything. Sammy will ask around and find out that Mira was working as a street whore to pay the bills. This will lead to Cass trying to convince Sammy to help her ask around the truckstop/highway if anyone knows anything. No one will talk to them so they decide to dress as whores and try again. This will unlock the job for Sammy and she will investigate and find clues as to what might have happened to Mira.

END OF STORY SPOILERS

In terms of gameplay, being a whore will unlock being able to rent a room at the motel and using it to entertain clients. It will be a new player home but because it’s a whores room, Sammy might be woken up by customers knocking on her door wanting service and it will generally be a less safer place than in her current flat.

Sammy will also be able to walk the streets looking for customers. The truckstop/highway near the motel will be the most common place but she can do it anywhere. If she does it at the truckstop and is renting a motel room, they will likely go back there. If she does it in other parts of the city, they may go to public bathrooms, the bushes or the guys place.

And of course this will tie into a lot of the other events. Maybe Sammy is just walking in the park, has high allure and gets approached randomly. Maybe she is an alcoholic suffering withdrawal and someone offers her some relief. Working the bar and someone offers to pay for company at his home for the rest of the night. The list is near endless

With all that said, it is not the only thing I want to do. Street prostitution is very sandbox heavy and the flatmate pt1 update was also sandbox heavy, so I want to work on some more story based parts of the game to give myself some variety on the work I am doing. I really want to complete the dance girls storyline which I will be able to with the prostitution stuff being worked on. Also I want to redo Felix’s photo story in a much more story based fashion, get Emile events in and completed as well as making her a proper flatmate and possibly start work on the police stories. This is not concrete though. While I do want to work on story based stuff, I am open to suggestions on what.

And Flatmate pt1 is not as complete as I would like it to be, so there will be a bit of clean up needed early on.

What about the other flatmates? Well, Charlie is also heavily involved with prostitution content, so like with a lot of stuff his story is being bottlenecked by it not being in. Jason doesn’t have any roadblocks that I can currently see, but I would rather not pile my plate any higher than it already is so I will do his content at the same time as with Charlie. So we will see the flatmate pf2 update after the prostitution update is out.

TL:DR. Lack of prostitution content is preventing me from doing lots of stuff, so it's what I will focus on next.
