2023-10-17 04:51:18 +0000 UTCIn the books, it’s made much clearer how similar Tywin and Tyrion are. They are both clever, witty, ruthless and master politicians. Tywin hates Tyrion for being everything that Tywin hates about himself. He calls him a “lustfilled” creature, and is very open about his disgust for Tyrion keeping the company of “whores”. but there have always been rumors that Tywin used secret tunnels that led to brothels to sneak women in and out of the Tower of the Hand. Tywin also having an interest in Shae is definitely a hint at the fact that they are one in the same, and Tyrion is infact his son and Tywin doesn’t practice what he preaches behind closed doors. He’s just as “lustfilled” as Tyrion is behind closed doors and enjoys the same “extracurricular” activities, except he has a lot of shame surrounding it and self hatred that manifests itsself as hatred towards Tyrion. Their dynamic is one of the most interesting parent-child relationships i’ve ever seen, it’s so layered. You guys should react to Alt Shift X’s video on Tyrion in the books vs in the show (once you finish because there are spoilers), i’d be super curious to see Tay’s reaction to the differences in characters!

Cersei points her out to Tywin by saying "she's the whore I told you about, the dark haired one" while they are preparing to have gifts presented for Joffrey, and Tywin tells Cersei to have Shae brought to the Tower of the Hand before the wedding. This happens right before Tyrion calls her a whore and sends her away.
