Nope, Fox right after The Simpsons. Watching it was a tradition for everyone in my generation ... except for you apparently lol Yes, they broke the fourth wall. It was an integral part of the show.

It was a comedy on Fox that came on after The Simpsons. If you possibly grew up in a religious family perhaps they didn't let you watch. It was a goofy family sitcom but maybe too gritty for certain parents. It was the first sitcom to film in single camera mode. There is an alternate joke ending of Breaking Bad where Bryan Cranston as his character "Hal" on Malcolm wakes up in bed with the actress who played his wife on that show and tells her all about this nightmare he just had of being a drug dealer. The two characters he played on the two shows were so vastly different from each other that the alternate ending is just hilarious, but it won't hit the same for you if you never watched Malcolm.

A small detail in that scene is that Skyler uses a "51" mug as an ashtray. Metaphorically, the mug would represent Walt and the cigarette / ashes would represent cancer, symbolizing her desire for it to return.

Episode analysis, great as always. But the thing that shocked me the most about your reaction is that Eric doesn't know Malcolm in the Middle! Bro, I'm not too much older than you and me and my cousins all grew up on that show. How did you grow up on ATLA but not Malcolm? :)

I like how Skylar seems to be smoking inside now maybe as a way to speed along some reappearance of lung cancer. Also noticed Walt's use the phrase "nothing stops this train". It's not super significant, but you'll soon see why it stood out to me.

If Skylar went to the police, sure the kids would be "ok" in that they'd be provided for and everything, but there would be mental and social repurcussions too.

I think it was a little bit of both for Skyler. She wanted to get away from reality and it was a way to get her kids out of the house. Next episode is suspenseful. One of my favorites.....kind of. So glad you're doing two a week!

The second Rian Johnson episode! Less flashy than the other two episodes that he directed but I still think it's pretty powerful, especially the Skyler scenes

This is probably my least favorite ep of S5, but still necessary as chess pieces are being set up.
Also can't believe you caught the "gun-click" sound at the very last second. Love that you're catching all the details on your first watch.
