Third Person POV
New World.
...
...
Meanwhile, back in the New World, the sound of something falling into the water echoed, and the seawater stirred, bubbling as someone had just jumped into it.
While a ship was beside the person who fell, another sound of a body colliding with the water came again, stirring the sea a little more as two people sank.
"Husband, are you okay?" Shirahoshi’s voice echoed easily underwater, while Luffy heard her thanks to the Voices of All Things.
The seawater covered his body and with that, he began to weaken immediately. At the same time, Luffy was quite resistant thanks to his efforts in dealing with contact with the sea, since his training had never been only about fighting on the surface — he needed to limit his weaknesses.
He knew he didn’t have full power in the sea. Even so, he would be fine, being able to stay for up to a month sunk at the bottom of the sea without dying, as he had tested, saving plenty of oxygen and using the Moa Moa no Mi Fruit to his advantage.
Luffy grabbed an object while Shirahoshi held him so he wouldn’t sink further. He simply smiled at her and began pressing the shell he had in his hand, placing his mouth over its hole, while a bubble began forming as he blew and somehow created it. Quickly, it enveloped Shirahoshi and Luffy.
"Well, let’s get started, but it’s better if we go down further." Luffy said, analyzing the sea, as they began sinking even more.
On the surface, the Black Pearl had stopped, since Luffy had ordered them to stop while he was about to test some things with Shirahoshi.
It was time to train his powers as ruler of the sea, so they stopped somewhere between the former position of Egghead and Elbaf.
Brogy and Dorry had suggested meeting them in the middle of the sea through the Den Den Mushi, saying it would be safer for them to reach the island of Elbaf and be introduced to the giants.
Luffy had not disagreed and took this time to stop and begin the training of his mermaid wife.
"Alright, what should I do, husband?" asked Shirahoshi with a serious look.
Once again, Luffy was surprised by her. Although he was already quite used to her change, Luffy still looked at her with admiration, now that there was no longer that scared little girl, full of doubts and hesitation. She had become a confident and mature woman in just two years — nothing less fitting to be the mother of his child that she carried in her belly — and she was ready to take on that role.
"Listen, Shira, first transform into Leviathan. I’ll put a bubble around your head, that will help us communicate." Luffy said, as she nodded.
She left the bubble with ease, while her body began to change, becoming serpentine and covered in blue scales, growing immensely and quickly transforming into the 100-meter-long Leviathan. Luffy lowered himself to her head and began blowing into the object even more.
The bubble began to circle her head, covering even one of her ears so she could hear Luffy, while the other ear would be left to the mercy of the water, allowing her to better hear the Sea Kings. Although this didn’t seem necessary — somehow she could hear him and communicate even when separated by a bubble — Luffy wanted to be sure.
Luffy also didn’t need to be in the sea to hear the voice of the Sea Kings, as his ability already transmitted everything they said.
"You’ve already used your powers a few times and did very well, but now it’s time for you to really communicate with the creatures of the deep. That’s why, every day, while the ship sails to Elbaf, you’re going to dive into the sea to test your abilities, understood?" Luffy said, while the Leviathan nodded with feminine eyes, staring at him.
"Yes, Luffy. This is the power to protect my people and also to fight by your side, just like the mermaid princess from 800 years ago had with Joy Boy." she said, already knowing a lot about the story, when the mermaid princess of that time should have married a man who possessed Lucy’s Fruit to fight in the final war.
But that didn’t happen, and it became a promise thrown 800 years into the future, until it reached their generation.
She might not have married the new Joy Boy, but she had married the man who would lead the world against the same enemy faced 800 years ago. Even her sister, who was the current Joygirl, would be following him.
More than that, she loved the man who had taken her from the castle where she had been locked away her whole life in her room, given her experiences she had always dreamed of — visiting the outside world, forests, seeing the blue sky, meeting different people and living all kinds of adventures she never thought she would have — falling in love with Luffy from the very beginning.
Shirahoshi then turned her gaze toward the depths of the sea.
"Come to me," she ordered telepathically, while she seemed only to have her mind focused.
In the next moment, not only did the sea around her stir, but something coming from the depths quickly made everything tremble. Luffy watched with satisfaction, seeing Shirahoshi’s call bringing the creatures to them, as they were already about 2,000 meters from the surface.
His gaze returned to the ship, still visible as a small dot on the sea’s surface, brightened by the sun, and he could also see the sea agitating.
The people on the Black Pearl looked out at the ocean, seeing waves forming around them, while the sea shook like an earthquake and huge things moved below.
Luffy had no doubt that there were giant beings that could reach many kilometers in length or height, because, if there was already Zunesha with 35,000 meters walking on the sea, why wouldn’t there be creatures of 5 or 10 kilometers swimming in the depths? All could be under Shirahoshi’s easy control with her powers — after all, it was no wonder her power could destroy the world.
As the members of the Dawn Pirates looked at the sea churning around them, Luffy and Shirahoshi, deep in the water, began to see enormous shadows approaching as giant creatures emerged, coming closer and closer. He asked Shirahoshi to descend even further so as not to affect the surface too much.
It didn’t take long before at least three dozen giant creatures were surrounding them, with others still arriving. At first, only their shadows could be seen, until they began to reveal themselves — creatures of all shapes. Shirahoshi couldn’t simply summon every creature in the sea at once, but all within kilometers of the area were there, staring at them.
"Our ruler has called us," an ancient voice echoed as they declared themselves, without a single protest toward Shirahoshi, who was in her Leviathan form, recognizing her power.
"Thank you for coming," said Shirahoshi.
"Are you the mermaid princess? Only a mermaid princess has the power to summon and lead us," one of the Sea Kings asked, looking at Shirahoshi with a hint of doubt. After all, she appeared to be a creature, but there was no denying she had the power of the promised mermaid princess.
"I am, I’m in my akuma no mi form..." Shirahoshi stated.
"Revert your transformation, at least so we can confirm," Luffy suggested, and Shirahoshi nodded, detaching herself from the bubble quickly and shrinking until she returned to her original form, without the effect of the Moa Moa no Mi Fruit, which she always used to control her size.
Returning to her 20-meter size dispelled any doubt among the Sea Kings. They could now clearly see the true form of the creature with the power that should belong to the mermaid princess. In any case, it was her, and none of the Sea Kings said anything more about it.
"Let me ask a question," said one Sea King, his voice as ancient as the others. "I ended up near the Red Mountain and couldn’t find Fish-Man Island. What happened to it?" he asked, his tone concerned.
"It was moved," Shirahoshi replied, while Luffy could still hear them from inside the bubble.
"My husband there, along with our nakama, brought Fish-Man Island to the surface, and now it’s in the territory he formed. It’s protected, and our people are better than ever!" said Shirahoshi, while Luffy could feel gazes directed straight at him, eyes so large they surpassed even Laboon’s in his original form.
"In any case, let me return to my serpent form. I need to hear what my husband has to say," she stated, returning to her Leviathan form and placing the bubble back over her head.
"They came, husband. What should I do now?" Shirahoshi asked.
"Shira, I want you to talk to them. These are creatures so ancient they must have lived for centuries. I want you to learn from them, listen to what they have to say about the events of the world — they must know many things. Also, try to reach even more Sea Kings. It seems your range is limited to just one region, but one day you should learn to reach the entire sea with your call."
"Also order some exercises in the sea. Have some of them bring Noah to the territory. They should know where it is. Oh, and leave the trench that belongs to you directly beneath Fish-Man Island," said Luffy, while Shirahoshi nodded.
"Alright, husband, I’ll do that," she said, while Luffy watched Shirahoshi begin communicating with them more naturally. She would have to do this every day, and he would have to let her do it on her own. He was only there to see how he could help her and even suggest how to proceed the first time.
In the end, they stayed there for more than three hours, while all the Sea Kings talked. And, indeed, Luffy had been right — many of them there had lived for five hundred years, and they informed him that there were some even older, which made his eyes shine. Having a conversation with those who had lived in the Void Century would be very useful, as it could yield information that probably even the Poneglyphs wouldn’t be able to give him in Laugh Tale.
"Well, Shira, I think we’d better go back. You seem tired," Luffy said still in her mind, sitting in a beach chair while eating some snacks he had gotten from the system.
"Alright, thank you for everything. I’ll come back here tomorrow," said Shirahoshi, while the Sea Kings nodded.
"Just be careful not to stir the sea too much. We have friends of ours on the surface," she warned, while they seemed to grow gentler, avoiding shaking the water too much with each movement of their immense fins, capable of creating waves on the surface.
Shirahoshi transformed into her mermaid form when Luffy shrank her the next moment, before she grabbed him and pulled him out of the bubble.
With it bursting, Luffy could have been crushed by the force of the sea, since they had descended as far as ten thousand meters to better talk with the Sea Kings. But his body was strong enough to withstand the pressure, while Shirahoshi, with her tail, carried him upward without much effort. Even as a devil fruit user, her fruit was connected to the sea itself, the only one in the world that had no weakness to water.
Luffy noticed something as they neared the surface: there were two black dots there, which meant there was another massive ship in front of the Black. As it should still be afternoon at that moment, he wondered who could be there.
With his Haki, having a bit of difficulty using it properly in the sea, he managed to sense after a while as they approached at Shirahoshi’s high speed in the water.
"So they’re here… interesting," Luffy smiled, his face still buried in his wife’s breasts as she carried him upward.
