Even if the tunnel opens, no A or S class demons will get into the Human World as long as the barrier isn't broken, which only happened because Kuwabara willingly cut it. The SDF have to keep demons from getting froggy in the small bits of territory that Spirit World controls in Demon World, otherwise that tiny bit of progress they've made over *centuries *could be lost.

So he knew that once Shinobu took his life the three of them we're gonna to want revenge and Kuwabara was gonna cut down the barrier and not give a damn about the consequences afterwards in order to avenge him. Side note the clothes that Shinobu wears when he begins fighting them is made out of the same special material and armor that Yoko Kurama wears.
