Vote On The September 2020 What A Cartoon Movie!
Added 2020-08-01 12:00:04 +0000 UTCHappy continued summer, Talking Simpsons Network supporters! Once more it's time for a poll to decide the next movie we'll be podcasting about. And as we did with our July and August polls for The Black Cauldron and Ghost in the Shell (respectively), the subject of our $10 premium podcast will be decided a few weeks earlier than we've done in previous months.
Currently, we're so far ahead in podcast recordings at the moment that we actually have the time in August to not only record the next What A Cartoon Movie! (Ghost in the Shell), but also to fit in the recording of our September episode, so the sooner you help us choose the film, the sooner we can record a podcast about it!
If you're new here, you should know that once a month we release the What A Cartoon Movie! podcast, an extra-long discussion about an animated film, exclusively for our $10 Patreon subscribers. And when we open up the voting for each month's subject, we want all the $5 subscribers to also have a chance to be heard, so those subscribers can help pick episodes they might enjoy down the line!
What will you pick for the September 2020 movie? We're taking a trip into the Disney vault for one of their direct-to-video sequels that defined that decade!
Your four Disney sequel choices are:
Aladdin: The Return of Jafar (1994), the sequel that started it all by being such a huge hit that every other theatrical Disney feature got the same treatment!
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997), a holiday tale that actually takes place during the setting of the first film—so it's more an interquel, really!
An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000), where father and son pain happens during the ESPN X-Games in the sequel to the '90s classic!
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998), the big cat sequel that replaces Hamlet with Romeo And Juliet to tell a similarly dramatic tale!
So please, make your voices heard before the poll closes on the night of August 7! Thanks as always for your amazing support, and know that we're really looking forward to recording August's podcast ASAP!

Return of Jafar winning the poll is very appropriate. It and Aladdin and the King of Thieves are the only Disney DTV titles I owned in their original release. My cousins owned An Extremely Goofy Movie (a giant ad for ESPN in hindsight) and I’ve still never seen BatB2 or TLK2 in full (only in clips via internet reviews)

2020-08-03 23:31:25 +0000 UTCReturn of Jafar really is the poster child for this particular topic.

2020-08-03 23:18:49 +0000 UTCI'm surprised at the commanding lead Jafar has. Guess it would make sense to talk about the true direct-to-video Disney movie, but I thought Goofy had this in the bag.

2020-08-03 16:41:13 +0000 UTCHe's not Scar's kid, he was apparently meant to be his heir but they make very clear Scar isn't his dad.

2020-08-03 08:12:34 +0000 UTCTough call between Jafar and the goof man. The other two are tbh more interesting to me but they really would benefit from covering the originals first.

2020-08-03 04:05:45 +0000 UTCI watched King of Thieves (for my first time) on D+ when it launched and I was shocked at how low budget it was, probably all that Robin Williams money. I'll have to revisit Jafar and compare it
2020-08-03 03:07:28 +0000 UTCOf all the Disney sequels, Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch is one of the darkest "death comes for us all" modern Disney productions I have ever seen. It wimps out in the last 5 seconds because Disney but it was a shocker at "ironic movie night" in college. It would be a fun topic one day!
2020-08-03 03:03:35 +0000 UTCWait really? I may have to check that out
2020-08-03 02:59:33 +0000 UTCLooks like Aladdin is gonna win, but I was super curious about Lion King 2. Isn't it about Scar's kid and challenging the idea of inherent evil and lineage? I'm excited to learn more but all you Disney nerds must be like *Rock voice* "FINALLY!" Would love to hear SungWon Cho @ProZD on some more about Disney stuff.

2020-08-02 20:49:50 +0000 UTCI'd be curious to hear you talk about Lion King 2 at some point, but it'd be odd if you didn't cover the original first.

2020-08-02 07:41:43 +0000 UTCI've never seen any of these until I recently watched "An Extremely Goofy Movie" with my daughter, so my vote is for that one.

2020-08-02 04:42:57 +0000 UTCI hated Return of Jafar as a kid and have never watched it since. Aladdin and the King of Thieves is way better in comparision. But if Return of Jafar wins I'll be forced to watch it again on Disney+. Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time might be the best non-theatrical Disney sequel, Jennifer Hale and Tress MacNeille are great in it but I guess that more of a Direct-to-DVD to be in this poll.

2020-08-02 04:31:48 +0000 UTCI really like that this post refers to these as "90s anime choices" because honestly, true
