What A Cartoon! - The January 2021 Schedule

Happy holidays to all you listeners from the Talking Simpsons Network! We hope you have as happy a New Year's Eve/Day as possible right now, as we celebrate socially distanced as well. And as we enter 2021 with hope in our hearts for the future, we look into our near-future for the schedule of January 2021 podcasts! We'll be tackling three listener-selected subjects that we've been waiting to cover for some time: a pair of modern Disney TV toons and a TV series that's the bedrock of American animation! Plus we'll be covering the first Cartoon Network TV movie all in the same month!

We've got quite a nice January planned for What A Cartoon! podcasts, and January will also feature our new format on Talking Simpsons, as we'll be alternating weeks of re-visiting season 2 while ALSO moving forward with season 12! Also, here's our standard FYI: If you're not yet a Patreon subscriber, signing up at the $5 level in the new year will get you each What A Cartoon! and Talking Simpsons episode a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our massive collection of exclusive miniseries (like the recently concluded Talking Futurama Season 2 Part 2) and over 100 bonus podcasts on top of that!

Now let's take a closer look at the podcasts planned for the start of 2021:

DuckTales (2017) - "The Town Where Everyone Was Nice" [Patreon: 1/4/21 - Free Feed: 1/11/21]

We start out January with a Patron pick of a Disney Afternoon reboot we've both been looking forward to covering: 2017's DuckTales! We discuss the relaunch of our favorite duck family, explore what changed along with all the cool references scattered throughout the series, AND cover season 2's Three Caballeros-filled episode. (And don't worry, we won't spoil any of the show's big secrets in this new-viewer-friendly podcast.)

The first two seasons of DuckTales (2017) are available on DisneyPlus.

The Flintstones - "The Great Gazoo" [Patreon: 1/11/21 - Free Feed: 1/18/21]

Long overdue as well, this Patron pick sees us discuss the formative animated series The Flintstones for the first time ever. We discuss how the Hanna-Barbera series was developed, how it became the first prime time animated series and first original 30 minute series in TV history, and the show's rise and fall that ended with The Great Gazoo. We'll have a gay old time!

You'll find every episode of The Flintstones on HBO Max (in the US at least).

Amphibia - "Cane Crazy / Flood, Sweat, and Tears" [Patreon: 1/18/21 - Free Feed: 1/25/21]

Our last top level Patron pick of the month, brings us to the magical world of frog people in this recent Disney series. We cover Amphibia's longer-than-expected gestation period, the fun troupe of voice actors involved, and discuss the show's second episode with a lot of swampy puns and gross bugs!

Amphibia's first season can be found on Disney Plus.

An Extended Preview of What A Cartoon Movie for Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip [Patreon: 1/25/21 - Free Feed: 2/1/21]

As a change of pace for January, we asked folks to vote on a classic Cartoon Network special for us to cover, and the winner was the channel's first TV movie, the Dexter's Lab finale, Ego Trip! Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky's final Dexter adventure sees the boy genius do a battle through space and time against Mandark, all while teasing the darker tone and style of Samurai Jack in one 50 minute adventure!

Ego Trip isn't as widely available as it should be, but there's a copy on Internet Archive currently (don't be a NARC!).

And remember: $5 patrons and folks on the free feed will hear an extended preview of the podcast, but if you want the whole thing (and access to all previous What A Cartoon Movie podcasts) be sure to increase your subscription up to the $10 level.

And so begins 2021, and we hope this will be a happier year for all of us. And keep an eye out for two new polls to help us choose the next What A Cartoon Movie! for February, as well as voting on our Spring 2021 podcast miniseries! Once again, thanks so much for all of your support, you make these podcasts possible, and we love making them for such a great audience!

How to watch dexter lab ego Trip podcast

Jonathan Marks

Ducktales 2017 is my pick for best show on television for the (now lamentably short) years it aired. Tight plots, clever references, and thoughtful characterizations permeate the series. Frank Angones is active on Twitter and his threads about development, voice actor / writing choices (cf. the way I lost a bet where 'Dijon isn't redeemable,' targeting voice actors native to their character's country) are hella worth the time. I can't wait to hear Bob and Henry cover this with their What A Cartoon magic which I understand to be comprised mostly of love and hours upon hours of research
