Talk to the Audience?!? - June 2022

We've reached the end of the month, which means it's once again time for another episode of our community podcast. This time around, we discuss more unionization efforts in the world of animation, censored Krusty action figures, the mystery of Graggle Simpson, John DiMaggio's bad Disney deal, the fifth anniversary of the Talking Simpsons Network, and more. And, as always, we respond to your questions and comments from the most recent round of episodes. So sit back, relax, and get ready for our special sermon on the sanctity of deliciousness!

Congratulations on 5 years on Patreon guys. I'm still at my dead end job but the hours are much easier to get through with all the high quality and entertaining podcasts you guys put out. You guys are super relatable and I'm proud to say I support independent creators like you on Patreon. Cheers.

Same. Maybe the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

I couldn't stop laughing at the Podcasting John Henry bit. XD

That reminds me, I met Bob at the Portland retro gaming expo in 2017 or 2018 not long after the begining and I told him talking Simpsons was my favorite podcast, and it’s still true!

Congrats on the anniversary! I’ve been listening since the beginning, when I was 21 now I’m 26 and have money and can be a patron! Thanks for the years and countless hours of entertainment!

Listen, I was baptized Catholic, did communion and confirmation Lutheran, don’t identify with a group now. For a period of time my mom made me go every single week except holidays for years. I think the confirmation conversation is burying one important point: you make fucking bank on your confirmation. They idea that Jewish kids get money for bar/bat mitzvah but Christian kids get nothing is a falsehood. Furthermore, lots of kids get money for communion on top of that. I think the unspoken reason a lot of people stay till theyre confirmed and then bounce other than their parents being dicks about it is you basically get a lot of money. To be fair, I have a very large extended family on both sides that keeps in contact so they could be part of it, but my fiancé who didn’t have one told me her cousins made out like bandits At theirs.

I never heard of Graggle Simpson before today and having googled him I wish I could go back. That freak is nightmare fuel.

As an OG listener and recently laid-off Internet writer for an evil media empire who also did not get paid anything extra for podcasting because "those don't make money," I'm so happy to hear y'all talk about how much better your lives are after launching the Patreon and making the podcast your full-time jobs. And I also can't believe that it's been FIVE YEARS. Talking Simpsons and What Are Cartoon have been with me through so many major life events—cheered me up when times were tough, made me smile a little extra when things were great—and still remain my very favorite podcasts. Here's to another 50 years indeed!

Thanks for the shoutout! And Happy 5th Anniversary to one of the best podcasts out there!

A 2021 equivalent to you got mail is the netflix movie love hard. Rom com with a similar technological slant. But if it happened in real life the main guy would probably be arrested

Congrats on 5 years! Been here from the "before times" with no plans to go anywhere. The Krusty toy is a bummer, but if you're a toy boy like me and also have at least some fondness for Gremlins, NECA makes a "Flasher" Gremlin action figure that comes with 4 or 5 little cigarettes. I have one, not because of the Krusty thing but because I found the toy amusing and I impulse buy too much, so I plan to see if I can work one into Krusty's hand or something when he arrives...next year? I would love to go to the Walt Disney Family Museum, but as an east coast person, it's obviously a challenge. It was recommended to me by a Disney VA who voices a rather famous duck, but I think part of the recommend was due to that person being a bit upset with the Disney company at the time. He and some other voice actors were doing a panel there too so I guess they do events and con-like things there as well. He encouraged me to attend, but I wasn't in a position to drop a bunch of things, like a new baby and a toddler at home, and fly cross country, but I kind of regret it as maybe I could have toured the museum or at least had a drink with some famous people. Oh well. And finally, Roswell That Ends Well! I've had July 2022 on my mental calendar ever since the monthly Futurama podcasts started looking forward to this one. It's gonna be a banger! Edit: Thanks, always, for reading my comments. Sorry they're usually so long, I never had issues meeting word count requirements during my academic years. Lightyear looks thoroughly mediocre and I have no interest in it, but I also haven't seen it so maybe it's better than I assume. Anyway, if it's supposed to be the movie Andy saw as a kid then it should be a corny, intentionally terrible, 75 minute toy commercial where characters die and are replaced so a real world corporation can sell new toys to kids. It should be Transformers: The Movie! Instead it looks like it's way too sincere and wants everyone to love Buzz. I don't know if such a joke could have sustained a 75 minute movie, but that's what Disney+ is for. Put a good, non-disposable, Pixar film like Turning Red in theaters instead. Also, I hate the marketing for Lightyear. I'm guessing everyone saw the picture of Andy and his toys in a movie theater supposedly watching it? The picture is fine and I don't know who the artist was, it's just the concept that's absurd. The kid brought his friggin piggy bank to a movie! Andy is clearly probably more on the "dorky" side of the social spectrum, which is where I was and there's nothing wrong with that, but going to that level with his toy devotion is just absurd. It just feels like the marketing for the film is trying to manipulate viewers like the Toy Story movies do (and quite successfully!), but it's way too on the nose and failed spectacularly.
