Blabbin 'Bout Batman: The Animated Series - Read My Lips

This week, we take on the dark side of puppetry via an exploration of Batman's most inanimate foe! That's right, we've finally reached the odd-couple pairing of The Ventriloquist and Scarface, two villains that happen to share a brainβ€”even though one of them has a wooden body. Listen in and learn how severe mental illness can cause a tiny gangster doll to control your actions, and make sure you stick around for a shocking surprise role from the one and only Joe Piscopo!

Double talk was the superior episode but i get why the guys chose this one

Reading Scarface & the Ventriloquist stories in the comics is always a weird experience for me, because while there's some really good material out there, the reading Gs as Bs for them takes some mental gymnastics for me, so I'm VERY glad they didn't go with that for the voice acting. Some of the first NEW comics I remember reading are from No Man's Land and the "New Gotham" follow-up stories in 99/00, including a cool arc written by Matthew K. Vaughn involving Matches Malone and Scarface, which, in tandem of BTAS, made me really like the villain (duo). It's collected with other Vaughn stories as "Batman: False Faces" and having gone back to it a few years ago, I'd definitely recommend it. -- As others above me have said, the New Batman Adventures episode with Wesker released from Arkham and trying to make it straight without Scarface is a FANTASTIC episode. -- I was shocked I had never thought about the Ventriloquist sharing a name with the RE villain, but that's just because it's ARNOLD not Albert, so close call for Henry there lol

Thanks for the podcast, guys. I love this character. ^_^ By the way, Matt Baume has a great bio on Kevin that just came out which goes into his life and his role as Batman: https://youtu.be/nryCo713s20

As mentioned by Bob, Ventriloquist is one of the few Batman villains who genuinely would be able to make an insanity defense in court since he does not believe he's the person responsible for Scarface's crimes. I love this episode but I might love the gaslighting sequel episode "Double Talk" even more.

That's the same reason reading I had on that scene. Just the typical Alfred dry humor.

Burt Stanton

IIRC, they've said there weren't a lot of Riddler episodes because they had a hard time writing good riddles.

Henry's performance of Janet Jackson's "That's the Way Love Goes" was pretty accurate. Nice job, Henry! I was watching a ton of MTV during this era, and as a boy basically just entering puberty, I really paid attention to the Janet Jackson videos, even if I didn't quite understand why. That one was solid, though it had nothing on "If." I'm going to offer a third reading on Alfred's "Not much of a plot," comment from inside the Batcave. I always interpreted that as Batman just borrowed a video from Gordon and Alfred is treating it like a movie a friend might of lent him or that he would have rented somewhere and just commenting on how it's not entertaining. Of course, he's not being literal, he knows what Batman is doing, but that cheeky Alfred often makes similar comments when approaching Batman at the computer. And I get it, the guy needs to keep his sanity somehow since he's working for a rich guy who likes to dress up as a bat and play detective.
