Erlan basically begged Ahlf to protect Irus - at this point, a lot of supporters for Erlan became disenchanted with his way of doing things (the war) and this was when Erlan began to suspect Virion of overthrowing him. He needed a neutral but dependable person to keep Irus safe in case of emergency - which in our case, ended up being Chapter 1 of the game 😅
