Piracy Leaks Again
Added 2024-08-28 07:16:51 +0000 UTCHello Patrons.
As always, piracy for Patreon demos is still on the rise. Unsurprisingly, links to the Patreon demo have been shared and the Patreon requirement has been bypassed as always for those wanting to play something for free while others pay for it. For that reason, any game files for previous iterations of the game will no longer be shared. I will also be requiring and updating a password for every demo update that will change weekly considering the amount of visits from the modding site the game continues to receive.
It's disheartening to know that the pirates continue to steal property and provide it for free, especially from indie game developers who are doing this as a passion project. Essentially, I've decided to no longer release the game when it's complete on itch.io. It's way too easy to pirate links and once you buy a game on itch.io, you own the game files on your PC, meaning that you can distribute it to others very easily. Steam will be the only store I will make the game available because it's harder to pirate and easily caught by staff.
I wish there was a better way to stop the pirates but unfortunately, until the game's completion, there won't be.
What this means going forward:
No game files will be able to be downloaded,
The game links will change, and
Passwords will be required to access the game and changed weekly.
It might seem like a lot, but I have to take action to stop the game from being leaked. Thank you to those of you who do support me and are genuinely interested in the game development!

2024-08-29 04:57:35 +0000 UTCAt the moment, the Patreon link itself was shared and accessed and no amount of Patreon linking to itch.io was able to stop the pirates from playing the Patreon demo. It's just easier to have everything on Steam because it's less of a hassle in terms of admin.

2024-08-28 17:27:07 +0000 UTCThank you π From what I can tell, the link only got leaked a around June/July so changing the game link has resolved the issue and my pirates will get a fun message when they play the game because I couldn't help but be petty π The stories are still being downloaded and shared though so apart from hosting them on an extremely secure server, I just have to hope for the best.
