I'm late to the show. Hopefully you still see comments on your older viewings. Jesse always bugged me the 1st time watching the series. I was like why does Walt keep staying with the ungrateful, vindictive and untrustworthy Jesse? Watching it again I picked up on the why. Remember when Walter went to the bar after dropping off the money to Jesse & Jane and unknowingly had a beer with her father. Walter told about his troubled fake nephew and Jane's Dad said you can't give up on family. That is the moment Walter decided not to leave Jesse to his fate of killing himself with the bag of money and heroine. Jesse is Walter's family and he will never give up on him. BJ nails the reason for Walter to kill the drug dealers, he knows he is indispensable to Gus and will not be killed at this time. Walter is not giving up on his family (Jesse). Walter did similar to save Hank from Jesse ruining his life. He convinced Gus who hates dealing with junkies that Jesse be his partner firing his perfect lab assistant, Gale. That was a huge risk because he wants to save his family (Hank).

"We're only on Season 3, they can't kill Jesse" It's crazy to think they were actually going to kill Jesse at the end of Season 1, but the writer's strike cut the season short. While they had time to think about it they realized how much Aaron Paul had grown on them and how valuable he was to the show so they kept him on

This is the episode where I started to wonder if Gus was a little sweet on Walter, something beyond a mutual admiration. He takes risks with Walter. Invited him to his house for a dinner, allowed Jessie to be his assistant... I think Asia is correct that Walt can smooth talk and manipulate Gus.
Hank adores Marie. I felt like he didn't want to go home because he didn't want her to have to care for him like a mother, as opposed to a wife. The fact he got so angry about his home bedroom being turned into a hospital room is what clued me in. That's just my guess though.

Agree with all of this! The character development is genius in this series. Love Hank π He can be a bit of a sh*t talker, but he's authentic, accountable, and honest. Mike is another one that became endearing to me after his first monologue in this season.
