The actor that plays Valiant is also in a film called Cotton Club. A great 1920s Harlem gang film. Would love to see a reaction to that. What a great movie

I’m a big fan of this movie since I watched many of the cartoon characters as a kid. If you want a little more adult version of a movie with live actors and animated characters, you can watch Brad Pitt in the movie Cool World.

The elevator dog is called Droopy, created by Tex Avery. Maroon mentions
that Disney loaned him half the cast of Fantasia, which accounts for the
ostriches and hippos in ballet costumes on his lot, as well as the walking
brooms in the background. And did you notice that in Eddy's office, near
the door, there is a statuette that looks just like the Maltese Falcon - as if
every private detective of that period must have one of those in his office
as a memento of a previous case!

Love this movie!! It’s was a massive technical achievement (before CGI), a love letter to 1940’s film noir and won 3 Oscars. So, it’s technically a Disney movie, it was released under their Touchtone films division which was reserved for films that were a bit more mature and had adult themes and weren’t suitable for the main Disney brand. And was made in collaboration with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment which also produced the Back to the Future films. Robert Zemeckis directed this in between directing Back to the Future I and Back to the Future 2/3 (which were filmed back to back). Spielberg was able to convince Warner Brothers (Looney Tunes/Tex Avery), Universal, and several smaller cartoon studios to “loan” their characters for this film. Warner (Looney Tunes) had one condition: the “big stars” had to have the exact same same amount of screen time as the Disney characters. So Daffy Duck and Donald Duck have a scene where they are on screen the exact same amount of time and Mickey and Bugs have a scene where they are on the exact same amount of time. Spielberg was probably the only person who could have pulled those strings at the time. Another interesting tidbit is the back story about the red car being dismantled in favor of freeways was actually a thing that happened in Los Angeles and was inspired by the 1974 movie Chinatown. Oh and the singing sword was Frank Sinatra 😉 Loved watching this with y’all! ✨💕

Omg I seriously haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid. I didn’t really like it back then but I absolutely LOVED it as an adult !! I am so glad y’all did this one. I really really loved watching it again with y’all. I had a permanent smile on my face the whole time. I’m gonna have to rent it and have movie night with the family. What a treat. Thank you so much!!

BJ, the name of the dog is Droopy. He used to be one of my favorites too. Asia asked about the hippo in the tutu.....that character was from Fantasia and the frog is named Michigan J Frog and is an old school WB cartoon (he was first featured as a frog who a guy found buried in a shoebox and when it was opened the frog would sing "Hello, My My Ragtime Gal", but only for the guy who found him). Great movie choice tonight!

This came out the summer before I started my Freshman year of high school. I remember seeing it in the theater and loving every second of it. It is especially cool because they pulled it off without CGI.

Awesome! This is a great movie! Really ahead of its time in visuals blending live-action and animation! Also a real treasure trove of Easter eggs! I'm really glad you got this on your own instead of it being suggested!
The Donald vs Daffy scene is my favorite of the whole movie. That and Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse showing up on screen together for the only time in history!
Judge Doom was played by Christopher Lloyd since you couldn't remember his name from Back to the Future, which is also another film/film series Robert Zemeckis directed as well Glad you remembered that connection!
