TW Update #70 - Toward 2024

Hellooooo Patrons!

I thought for this update it would be prudent to have a look at where we are and what I'll be doing to fill out the rest of the year; after all we've only got, what, 4 updates left in the year and I'd like to get a few things down and done by then.

First though, what I've been working on for the last 2 weeks!

Onna Scene and Saving Scenes

Basically, as the images indicate, I've been putting Onna's character model into the game and writing various branches of her script up. At first I thought 'Well let's write 1 route all the way to the conclusion to where the previous demo picked up then go horizontal from there', but it turns out that this scene was actually 2 in 1-- one where you meet her, then a further 'apartment' scene that can vary a lot based on how your initial scene with the Doctor went.

This basically meant that, writing-wise, it started to feel really thin content/interaction-wise, which wasn't appealing. So I've started to do things like in previous scenes, and have written out the first scene where you meet her and all the various choices within. It'll need editing, but the important thing now is to assign Onna expressions to it and badabing badaboom, we got a new scene to lead into an apartment scene. A couple of background images are also required, and there's a couple of strong moments that beg for CG sets, but we'll get there when we get there.

I also managed to get the different save-state buttons for the Thrall Designer to work, but not, alas, between in-game saves. I've my work cut out for me in this matter it feels like, as I'm having to learn about serializeable states and addresses and all of that sort of stuff, which also requires me changing how I'd previously done things like change material gradients on the model. If I can pull the assets right out of the Assets folder rather than directly assigning them as public variables though, then we've got a shot. Might take the rest of the year to sort though, in tandem with scene-writing and art.

I guess the awful thing about this work is that it's absolutely important to get this save-state for the thrallsuit working as it's also the kind of thing that will apply to other game variables such as your Reputation and character opinions...but it's not flashy, and the amount of non-flash in the current workload has been taking its toll on me for sure, in every which way. But by the prophets, it will be done!

The Domeanie Future

After finishing the Penlight fan project, I think it's time to get back on track with the Thrallopedia. It went a little off the rails way back in May (I don't want to point any fingers, but that's also when I started in on the Thrall Designer UI, so read into that as you like), so expect the next Domine entry mid-Nov and the rest to follow suit in due course.

I'll also be participating in at least *some* of Hypnovember-- I'm obviously already behind-- but it seems like a good excuse to get some sketches of stuff down and have some fun.

Over the next 4 updates I want the game to be in a position to add in the content from the original orientation demo, so I can put this demo back out in the public sphere and start feeling sane again.
