October Project - Thrall Gladiator Game

Mornin' all!

As you may have been aware if ever you sat in on my streams or have actually read any of the blah blah I type up along with these posts, I’ve been planning on doing some kind of one-off project to work on during October, most likely a game of sorts.

After a few too many months of humming and hawwing over what precisely the project should be, I’ve settled on making a game of fighting Thrall Gladiators, with an eye to get the core mechanics down enough so that I can run tournaments of the game as a community staple and provide a simmering amount of additional content for it going ahead in the way of new Gladiators and similar.

As I’m still in the prep-stage, I don’t have a huge amount of information to give you and information is liable to change, so I’ll stick to a general outline for you all.

Game’ll be a 1v1 battler with some mechanics similar to slay the spire, in that you have a certain amount of points you can spend each turn to play actions you draw from a deck.

You win when you destroy the opponent’s Achilles Trigger, which becomes vulnerable either when-

Oh ok, so you are a Trainer and step 1 is you pick your thrall. In the interests of expediency right now I’m designing just 1 thrall for the game- a cultivated thrall-

-Ok here she is

Moddable with  different appearances/colours to make her unique. When she loses physical stamina, black-glossy suit comes up the exposed arm, and when she loses mental will, the stigmata on her face creeps black

LATEX GOOD

Yes, yes, and in the battles you can put ballet boots and hoods on the fighters as debuffs!

BONDAGE GOOD

Mmm and when you win a battle, either the enemy gladiator bows to you, or they turn into a Drone!

DRONES GOOD LEIK DRONE

Mm, and you can train your Gladiator between matches to-

LIKE MIND CONTROL YES

…Yes.

So yeah, that’s what I’ll be working on during October, getting the basic multiplayer system working with this one thrall model, then-

-Then I’ll see about some kind of single-player oh my god

Right, so the actual ‘target’ I’m aiming at will doubtless shift over the course of the month as I try and develop it further, and I’ll be doing project updates over on my bluesky 

Before then, well we’ve still got over a week of the regular stuff so, Thrallworks devving and Volition, seeing if we can get some good progress on the former afore the October times begin.
