What did we do this week? (Sep 30th 2021)

Fei : I've been working on a post-Chapter 1 trailer that would compress and highlight as many new features as possible. The night time being the most visually impactful, I decided to introduce the new Trailer with a tiny jpop/kpop dance.

我正在製作第一章節的預告片,並且盡可能的把新的要素與亮點包含進去。夜晚的城市中的視覺呈現是最棒,我也決定加入一點日本/韓國風格的舞步。

However, it became quickly more a puzzle to solve rather than a dance animation, as the song I chose starts with no beat but a electronic sound for around 7 seconds, therefor there's nothing to even dance on to begin with.

然而,馬上就有個待解的問題產生,不是舞蹈動畫,而是我選擇的曲子前面7秒只有電子音效,因此開頭時沒有可以跟著跳得節奏。

So I went for taking cool poses for the first riff, switching on lights on sound cues.

所以我在前面的電子音效演奏時,把所有人物擺出帥氣的姿勢,在聲音提示下打開燈光。

Then the remaining riff with no beat were everybody looking at Ruby, using camera movement as there's not much character movement I could provide.

剩下仍然沒有節奏的時間裡,每個人都看著Ruby,利用攝影機的移動帶過畫面,因為我也沒有太多其他角色的動畫。

Then the beat kicks in, and I tried many things. Dance animation is hard. I think I could pull off something cool, but I soon realize that would eat one or two whole weeks quite easily.

接著節奏開始了。我嘗試了很多東西,跳舞動畫很難製作。我應該能夠做出一些很酷的東西,但很快我就知道實行這些點子很容易就花費1~2個星期。

So I decided to go for a simple shoulder nudge along the beat, and again use camera work to end the intro. I hope it won't feel too cheap, and I feel it is probably alright with the following gameplay footage washing away the audience judgement over those few seconds.

所以我決定讓角色的肩膀跟著節拍抖動,並再次利用運鏡結束。我不希望這樣的作法讓觀眾感覺太粗糙,不過我認為應該是可以接受,因為接下來的遊戲影片會沖淡觀眾感到的粗糙感。

Also I hope nobody notices, but I forgot to put glasses on Optrellian. Oh well, I'm not rerecording this part. Kudos to people who notices that. I didn't until I started writing this article!

LEO : After five months of hard work, we finally finished the polishing of chapter one. It includes heavy modification of the story and missions, a huge new area to explore and a ton of many other small things. And of course... Debugs.

This is the most annoying part of each update. We basicly need to spend whole weeks debugging on each update, and this time we took almost two weeks for it. We have to test Neon Tail from the beginning to the end every single time, very thoroughly trying to find any potential action combinations that players might do.

Then we fix what we found, then go back to test, over and over until we can't find any obvious bugs in the game. But even like that, we always get bug reports immediately after the update, sometimes huge ones.

We usually decide depending on the severity of these bugs whether we would fix it immediately, rebuild and upload the game or just leave it until next update.

Making a new builds is a complicated work, so we avoid doing it as much as possible.

Next month we will forcus on marketing to show our big polish and try to grow our community as much as possible. If you think Neon Tail is a good game, please recommend it to your friends. There is a free demo on our steam page, thank you!

經過了五個月的漫長工作,我們終於把第一章節修改完成了,包含了大量劇情的編排與表現優化,新增了一個大的遊玩地圖以及各種小東西。當然還有必不可免的測試抓蟲,這可以說是每次更新最讓人頭痛的部分,基本上我們都必須準備一整個禮拜來應付每月更新之前的測試,這次甚至幾乎用了兩周的時間。這期間我們必須從頭到尾周密的測試整個遊戲,然後修改抓到的錯誤,接著再回頭測試,周而復始直到沒有抓到任何明顯的錯誤,但是這畢竟是個龐大的遊戲,因此在更新之後仍然會有玩家回報少部分的錯誤,我們就會視情況決定是否直接修改再更新或是留待下次更新,因為製作一個新的版本的過程是非常繁瑣的,所以我們盡量避免這件事。接下來這個月我們會開始進行推廣的工作,希望能讓更多的人看到這次重大更新之後的成果,如果您覺得霓虹之尾值得推薦,也歡迎推薦給您的朋友嘗試看看,我們在Steam上有免費遊玩的測試版本可供下載。


Yang: We finish polishing Chapter 1, now we'll focus on marketing.

We'll try to work harder on our Social medias, try to find and contact streamers from discord groups or subreddits, create a new pitch powerpoint, a new trailer....etc.

My part is to start to contact each of our discord members and make a pitch powerpoint, so let's go!

我們終於完成第一章的打磨,現在我們會專注在行銷上。

我們會在更致力於社群上,試著在discord與subreddit找到可以幫助推廣的直播主,編寫新的提案簡報,一個新的預告片....等等。

我的部分則是專注聯繫每個discord中的成員,以及編寫提案簡報,讓我們開始吧!
