Source Filmmaker and Blender are completely different programs. "Cycles" is one of the renderers of Blender aside from Blender Render. Like I said Blender is not newbie-friendly. There's a lot of buttons and icons in the UI that can be confusing & hard to operate for beginners.

tell me and sfm on Blender Cycles easy to navigate, or is it a completely different program?

I currently use Blender Cycles and it is far superior in render quality compared to SFM at the expense of absolutely slow render times. If you want to improve visual quality in SFM I suggest you to start practicing like: the Three Point Lighting for basic lighting, learn to manipulate & edit a lot of assets using "Material Override", and use Ambient Occlusion (and tweak its values using Material Override again). There's a lot of tutorials on Youtube but I forgot the ones that I started with.

If you want to make long animations & a beginner to animating I suggest you start at SFM, to give you the idea of basic animating & pose-to-pose, since it already has a ton of community assets ready to download (sfw & nsfw you'll never run out of assets). Blender can look like a Pixar movie but that's entirely dependant upon the creativity & knowledge of the creator. Since you mentioned sense of character movement then SFM is much better at animating. SFM is superior in animating whereas Blender lacks a lot of crucial features that made SFM great for animating. Blender is not newbie-friendly when it comes to animating, it's a pain in the ass actually (even I hate it). At the current moment Blender Cycles is not for long animations, unless you have powerful PCs acting as your render farm, but then it's still not efficient to use Blender Cycles due to the fact that the render times is just absurd.

this is really amazing. Is blender also good for making full animation movies? Like walking animations and other things, or is it best for isolated animations? I'm doing research to learn at least one animation program this year but still figuring out which is good for they type of animations you would see in like a Pixar movie (not in quality of course, but just in sense of character movement, etc.)
