2025-05-02 17:22:24 +0000 UTCI think calling someone a "casual fan" for wanting to enjoy something closer to the original writing is a bit unfair. I (Taylor) definitely don't consider myself a casual fan as I've consumed pretty much every form of Dragon Ball media (besides Daima since we're saving it for a later reaction) and have re-read the manga more times than I can count. The military hasn't been relevant since Dragon Ball. Ever since they started flying and got the power to destroy planets there has never been a moment where I have caught myself going, "I wonder why the regular humans with regular guns and ammo aren't trying to do a bit more" We see instances in which people shoot guns (like at Android 17/18) and they obviously bounce off. Guns couldn't do anything against Raditz and we're so many leagues beyond that at this point. Toriyama didn't bother with adding the military because why would he? At this point there's nothing besides the Z fighters that can do anything against these galactic level threats. To be totally honest, I think that if a newer fan was wondering why the military didn't get involved then they themselves are a more casual fan.

When Piccolo is getting absorbed the original show actually shows the military trying to intervene in the fight. That minute detail is actually so important because a lot of new fans always wondered where was the military. They did try & failed. That also show's you how frightening Cell's appearance was. To each's own as i always say. You have the right to watch you want to watch but Dbz Kai is certainly best if you're ONLY a casual fan. Kai is more accurate to the manga but for a massive fan like myself, both Kai & the original are worth watching.
