Overlord 1x1 (Full)

Ok ok... we're in for a BANGER of a take on SAO

Comments

Personally I am all for watching more dub! Maybe I have just been lucky and in the course of over 100 anime I just never came across a truly bad dub, or maybe it is just because I don't go out of my way to compare it to the sub or source material so I don't know if something was supposed to be translated a little differently, but for the past 16 years I've watched everything I wanted to in dub if available and especially with the screen space being limited in these reactions, I much prefer a dub even if I'd still watch a sub any day, even when I am not forced to due to a lack of a dub for a specific anime.

Eisman333

if you want to see a poll where the dub will always win you should run a poll for Ghost Stories. Best Dub Of All Time.

Jordan Padilla

Oh man, I forgot Ed Blaylock played Sebas. RIP. And Ainz's voice and inner monologue have the same VA. His name is Chris Guerrero. Overlord is one of my favorite isekai and easily my favorite game isekai. I'm really excited you guys are watching it in dub. It is spectacular.

Matthew Voss

Thanks for the heads up!

TKOhhh

We both really liked it! Different strokes for different folks!

TKOhhh

Hope you heal up quickly!

So just finished, and while I personally do not think it is even close, it is not terrible thus far, so, if you continue dub, I will still watch your reactions. I love the anime, and hope you get to have that enjoyment from it as well.

Leaving this comment before watching, immediately lost hype when I heard dub, instead of sub for this one. However, I have not seen it in dub, so would be remiss not to give it a shot. When I first got into anime 25 some odd years ago, dub was all I watched, and even going back for watches on those, they were incredibly well done, especially for the limited pool of actors, and I can still enjoy them. I got into sub when the high seas era for anime was the only way to get to watch many series, and found how amazing it was. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that 90% of instances where I try to watch dub, it is just stale, and flat, and often times terribly translated by comparison. All that being said, I will not dismiss something without giving it a fair shake, and I hope this lies in the 10% realm, even if it cannot equal sub, good is okay by me. I will end my little novel here lol, and then let the VA "speak" for itself, and give my personal shorter thoughts after. Also, not hating on anyone that likes dubs, etc. just sharing my thought process is all.

Overlord nice ! Hope for more episode soon since i'm stuck home for medical leave xD

Ryuuky

I will always cry that they fumbled SAO, i watched episode 1 and i was like "wait this seems awesome" , episode 2 was just as good, and then episode 3 they were like on floor 35 and im like "wait why did you skip so much" and then kirito was max level by like episode 5 and the characters were refrencing shit that would of been really cool to explore and actually see on screen

GodUsopp

I watched overlord because it was on netflix and i heard about it before so i was like "hey why not" it was dubbed and it was my favorite thing ever, coming home from work and watching 2 episodes before going to bed, its isekai done the best it can be done, great characters, great world, excellent plot, i literally searched "anime like overlord" thats how much i loved it and was sad it ended, also the ending music kicking in when soemthing cool happens to end a episode especially during season 2 gave me chills

GodUsopp

I’m so excited for y’all’s reaction to this series

Carl Sagon

love it in dub. Also volume was a little on the low side

Jorge_ B

Did I miss something? The poll states that the dub won. By a pretty fair margin as well. Edit: Oh, never mind. It was your decision. Alright.

Ardane

Having your NPCS come to life and start talking is quite the surprise. I know the average gamer would be cooked with all the ways they reap havoc on them. The MCs VA has such a great range. I can't believe the inside voice and skeleton voice come from the same guy.

Shadowmist909

Link?!

TKOhhh

omg it's happening! The movies are all cannon, yet the ones in the movies category are kind of filler, but can get a little more detail. The most recent movie (Sacred Kingdom) is not filler and needs to be watched after season 4. Death is usually more of a reincarnated (Tensei) where Isekai means other world. Truck-kun is kind of a meme, but in the oldest isekai type stories death was not a factor. Alice went through a looking glass. Dorthy was sucked into a tornado. This cast is great; I also loved the changing Albedo from a tsundere to a yandere.

Random

There is a Halloween special where the characters of Overlord and Eminence in Shadow crossover. Chibi forms and short, but it was fun.

Gaius

The most recent movie takes place after s4 and is cannon AFAIK. I'm looking forward to y'all seeing what Ainz is capable of.

Wally

Thank you for this! 🥰🖤

TKOhhh

Oh shit that’s a good point!!!

Gonna be honest I’m one of the people who prefers dub over sub for reaction purposes. I understand people’s love for sub in general as sometimes the voice direction can be off for certain scenes and it feels bad missing that nuance. However, there’s so many series that I’ve seen people react to that are super lore heavy completely lose the plot because they misunderstand or misread the subs, and as someone who is watching a bunch of react content I find it a lot easier, especially while at work, to know what is happening at any given moment and your thoughts on it without having to stop and look. Also, the reason he assumes he’s in a different world isn’t because it’s a new as in a gaming world versus the real world. The reason he assumes he’s in a completely new game is because he did the “fondling” test. Yes it seemed ridiculous but it actually served a purpose. In the actual game 18+ actions weren’t allowed and were bannable. He assumes this isn’t some version of the game because of that.

Anthony Mosher

Dub beating sub are classics that EVERYONE agrees have God Tier dubs like 1.Death Note, 2. Code Geass 3. Black Lagoon, etc

ShaquanVirse

Yeah, i Enjoyed watching along with Them react to Solo leveling with already having the Context of the Manwha. so this will be fun to watch along with Knowing the "dark Novel/ Web novel" (i never did the light novel.)

PsyrinCall

About the different world thing, that is actually what the "fondling" test was about. He became convinced that this was not a new version of the game or anything because 18+ actions like that are illegal to have in games not explicitly catalogued as 18+

Zilleyon

oh my i think the sub is still better but dub is a good refreshing part. i think the Log horizon is the dub go to

Naowtsugu

Oh boy, here's another Anime thats Choc-full of Light-novel and Dark novel/ Web novel Lore. i had a Great time watching your Solo leveling with the context of the Manwha now i get to Join you on this with the Context of whats not included. IMO Overlord Intro's Are Spoilers. i'm trying to recall Any of the Anime i have watched that was in Dubbed and can only think of Code Geass DBZ and The later Seasons of SAO, can't think on the top of my mind that i havn't always exclusively watched in Subbed. (i even watched Solo leveling in Subbed, but just watched a reaction Binge of the Season2 in dub and released i have being missing out.)

PsyrinCall

Agreed, i've honestly Done Subbed on most animes and recently Found to Appreciate The VA's alot more because of their Dubbed reactions. I've watched Overlord and Solo Leveling reactions always in Subbed just because thats what i'm used to. but hell, im up for Dubbed just hope Certain... words and Personalities stay seamless with the Subbed.

PsyrinCall

The first and second movie is just season 1 recaps, They can be skipped. if you want to watch "OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom" chronologically, watch everything up to season 4 episode 8, then watch the movie, then watch episodes 8-13. The movie came out after season 4 so you can also watch season 4 then movie as well

Brian Montoya

I mean at this point I've seen Overlord so many times that Dubbed might be refreshing xD This is a certified banger show!

Zilleyon

Let's go Skele Daddy for us all! Sub dub is almost us (me included who are non-english main speakers) outside of english nations people speak a lot of languages so original language for a show/tv/movie is in my mind always the right choice. Even just to educate yourself, if you watch anime always in japanese you start automatically learn the language. Ps. Well for me might be first time first time full Dub watch of Overlord so something new for me.

Thamor

Dang it oh well

Bob

The higher and lower voice is done by Chris Guerrero who has also worked with team four star

Justin Pruett

Overlord's novels started in 2010 and the anime began in 2015. Sword Art Online was originally written in 2002 and the anime began in 2012. I'm a big fan of both series, novels and anime. While there are technically Overlord movies, only the last one should be watched. The others were more like a tv special that combined early episodes. There's nothing new in them. The last one should be watched in the middle of season 4, if I'm not mistaken. Funnily enough, Overlord was actually the series that got me to start subscribing to Crunchyroll. I got into the series while season 3 was airing, and that season was behind a paywall. Couldn't find it on any sites at the time. I've kept the subscription active ever since.

Ryne

Glad your doing dub! I think it's done well. The voice actor for the deeper external voice of Ains does a real good job and is pretty distinct.

Kosse K

I saw Overlord and immediately clicked! Dub is as good as sub for this. I’ve rewatched multiple times in both. So happy for y’all to be jumping into this.
