3 months late, but we DO know his real name. It's Satoru Suzuki. I don't think it's ever mentioned in the anime, if it is I don't remember it, but it's mentioned in the light novel at least.

The fact that he is the highest level of undead creature adds to he seeing him as beautiful. At this point of the story, his name is Momonga and Ains is the first word of his Guild's name. To say it in the least spoiler way possible, he will switch his name to the guild name to introduce himself and will start being called Ains by others for many seasons, so the subtitle dude just writes "Ains" before Momonga's lines, as his old "Momonga" name is dropped pretty early on in the story. It's a subtitle mistake. (PS: We don't know his IRL name.)

I have watched the series a few times, but I have not read the books. There is a lot I do not know about Overlord. However, I do not think they are in a game for two reasons. One) it was mentioned in another comment, this world is based off of a DnD campaign. Two) the Korean influence. This story is written a lot more like a Korean story even the illustrator, So-Bin, is Korean. The concept of stuck in a game is something more common in Japanese and Chinese. Where in Korean stories, its more like a portal to another world. Best WAIFU .... let's wait until around episode 9. By then, you should have seen most of the female cast. Ya'll need a Waifu tier list then at the end of each episode, you can add new waifus and rearrange the ranking :P Taylor, I loved the comment about combat rankings. I think you will be surprised and enjoy this aspect. Karlii, the naming of characters in this show are just as amusing as EiS. Like Demi-urge, it could mean partial urge or maybe resisting urge, and Master TouchMe. More to come!

Nice theory that he was in his Nazarick tomb and the admins loaded his dungeon somewhere else, I haven't heard that theory before and in a way at episode 2 that is pretty good guess. Ps. As the anime will never say or reveal this, Ains/Momonga's real world was pretty far in the future and was so polluted that they couldn't even see the night sky. So that is why he is impressed in this episode of the star filled night sky.

2025-06-13 17:31:57 +0000 UTCjust to clarify Mononga was his Game Characters name, Ainz ooal Gown is the name of the Guild and so is the staff from EP 1, Nazarick is the Guild HQ. now i've been meaning to ask how do you guys want Details that's being left out or isn't explained in the anime? thats from the Light novel/ Web Series as there is ALOT? (only Clarifying things for episode? or Include fun fact Lore?) for example The Reason Momonga is Admiring the Stars in the Sky so much is because the world he is from is Polluted to all hell and can't see so much as a star in the sky. (Web Series or what i call the Dark Novel is alot more detailed and "darker" with inclusions in future episodes.)
