Volume to episode ratio is definitely an interesting topic. Toradora adapted 10 volumes in like 25 episodes, which led to a bunch of problems. Meanwhile there are series that go in the opposite direction, like Apothecary Diaries. I believe that did about 1 volume per 12 episodes.

2025-10-13 19:09:57 +0000 UTCThey did skip some stuff in the anime, but for the most part it is pretty faithful to the novel. Normally, anime tend to feature around 3 books per season with 4 episodes per book (if the original is a novel). This is the standard pattern. But with EiS they had covered 3 books in over 30(!) episodes - which is a lot more episodes than usual and one of the reasons EiS translated so well into anime. Personally, I find that a more relaxed pace would suit most anime adaptations better (like with EiS). It works okay most of the time, but sometimes you get something totally egregious like Spirit Chronicles where the first episode is great and then they proceed to squeeze like 6 books into one 12 episode season, which is unreasonable and ruins any and all pacing the original novel had (which on top of that already had timeskips in it).

2025-10-08 03:05:42 +0000 UTCAs a Manga reader, I actually like the anime A LOT more. And the pacing has been real good. Side note, even after all the times I have watched this, I never caught the Diablos hand at the church, so great catch.
