BTS of Alexandra FaceTime Shoot California to Texas
Added 2020-10-25 23:39:33 +0000 UTCWith the lockdowns all over the world, creatives are having to be somewhat resourceful in order to stay busy.
In the first month of quarantine I found myself spending a lot of time on Instagram. That’s where I first saw a virtual shoot that was done in England.
After a bit of research, I decided to give it a whirl.
I’ve spoken to a few photographers who think virtual shooting looks too much like selfies, and some who love the process and said they will continue with it even when the world gets back to normal.
I found that it’s actually good training, because you are not present, you can’t move around to get the best angle, adjust the lighting etc. It definitely takes two, and on occasion, three to make it happen. So, it’s a good exercise in giving direction and posing your model. I think my photography has improved tremendously due to remote shooting.
For me, the most fun part is being able to work with models all over the world. I’ve worked with people I never dreamed of meeting, some of whom are stuck at home missing what they usually do and love the chance to be creative while staying safe.
The video clip is from a recent shoot with model Alexandra. We met on Instagram and have done multiple sessions together.
Alexandra is a model and aspiring actress residing in Texas. We have done a few remote shoots together in the past, usually using a method where her DSLR is tethered to software on her computer and I have the controls at home on my iMac. This method yields the best results. For this particular shoot we decided to use her phone rather than the usual method, for a change in pace. It also allowed her to move freely about the house in order to find good spots to shoot.
