Draconian Remnant 67
Added 2022-03-11 07:20:44 +0000 UTCThis is a chapter that I did not want to write (as evidenced by the fact that I haven't written anything else this week yet), but, at the same time, needed to be written.
. . . enjoy?
The other chapters should come quicker now, at the very least.

2022-04-06 19:09:33 +0000 UTCThis seems like it was the end of the Jaune/Yang plot line. That's liberally an advancement of the plot. Not the 'main' Cinder/Salem plot, but still plot nonetheless. While it might not be a plot thread you care about it is undeniably a plot thread.

2022-03-16 22:55:01 +0000 UTCyeah, I can see why you disliked writing this chapter. hell, I cant really say I enjoyed being on this side of it either. But I do agree, it was a needed chapter. I just kinda wish it didn't end on that particular note. In another thought though... the forums are gonna lose their collective shit over this chapter.

2022-03-12 17:34:29 +0000 UTCWhile that certainly true for reality, the fact of the matter is art is never as clear. It has to skew things because it doesn't have the same time issues. You can spend tons of chapters on a short period of time, or have long stretches of time over a fairly short chapter arc, but neither really hit the same way with the readers unless you underscore it, which is why you tend to get characters reflecting on how short or long a timeframe has been to give things context. It's certainly not impossible to redeem Yang, but this was definitely a Kick the Dog moment for her.

2022-03-12 04:28:00 +0000 UTCBy the nature of their team they will spend a lot of time with each other over the next few years, so they won’t drift apart and will be forced to interact with one another. So it’s not actually impossible to get back together once she matures, which will naturally happen over time (for most people) or due to the shit that will happen and travelling the world (as tracking helps one mature most of the time),

2022-03-12 03:49:47 +0000 UTCWith what funds? And which world would you be able to go to that would have powers able to defeat an immortal, regenerating witch that would not also be as or more dangerous? And why would any of those people want to teach you regardless? The MC has already established that he won't bind them for it, and anyone who had both the power and the willingness to help would likely be more concerned with solving the issues in their own world. That is why the bindings exist, to influence the cost-benefit calculation of characters in the contractor's favor.

2022-03-12 03:16:43 +0000 UTCThe way the dragon perk works is he gets stronger with no upper limit over time. Through that doesn’t help with the Salem issue as she won’t just put her plans on hold and wait for him to grow. Though another option is going to other worlds and learning their magic/powers.

2022-03-12 01:33:26 +0000 UTCI mean, yeah, I get it. That seems hard to write. I suppose there are ways it could have went better if Yang actually reflected on things and changed a bit. Although, seriously, that sort of thing needs talk and boundaries set beforehand. And, you know, not done in the school where if anyone walks in because her words, I dunno, tripped some Semblance of someone kept on staff for that reason he'd be kicked out and blacklisted because people like that cannot be allowed to be Hunters. In some ways, her own behavior can be seen to sabotaging a team member, and could tank her career if looked at in the wrong light. Honestly, I feel like this might have gone better if Yang had, you know, grown a bit. While it's certainly believable, it feels a bit forced to be happening in such short order. Like, if she actually talked about what she wanted, but refused to compromise on not doing it their first time, it'd feel like she was growing while still not being in a place they could work together from. As it is, the way she's acted less well-rounded than other comparable characters makes it seem like you're making the choice to write her less well-rounded. Whereas showing her making small movements, but in the wrong way, ie learning a lesson - but not the important one, can show this isn't the character being less well-written than other characters, but being flawed. Having the same issue over and over again, while realistic, is unfortunately one of those realisms that play poorly in artistic formats since the repetition wears down a lot of things, like the readers ability to care about the character's development. If Yang's showing improvement but doing so the wrong way in a way that shows the relationship won't work, it's fine to call it off. If Yang's not showing improvement and basically having the same issue we just had a big fight about, a lot of readers will start to respond poorly to any idea of Yang being involved at all, since her character arc is so repetitive they'd rather just skip it by not dealing with her. I know I'm already starting to dread any further Yang developments because they don't appear to be going anywhere. A different fight might let it feel less doomed and open up that they could grow together with a proper arc, but right now Yang's been painted so far into a corner that she's quickly becoming an unlikable character where any redemption looks like so much of a slog the readers might just want to skip over any 'Yang bits.'

2022-03-11 20:08:48 +0000 UTCI can see why you had trouble with this. It seems to just be drama for the sake of drama. There’s no value-added interactions or forward momentum for the plot. Though I still find it funny that the protagonist won’t bind people for power despite having no other real hope of beating Salem.

2022-03-11 14:27:33 +0000 UTCThe second. I wanted to make it work, but Yang's got issues, and looking at how her character is presented in volumes 1-3, she works in certain paradigms, ones that wouldn't play well with how I work, at least not without some change and growth that doesn't happen that fast.

2022-03-11 14:26:55 +0000 UTCYeah, that actually happened. My voice has a bit of reverb, apparently, and according to about a dozen different women "sounds comforting".

2022-03-11 14:23:29 +0000 UTCJust of curiosity, was this always the plan for Yang from the beginning, or did it sort of happen whilst writing and you realized that the characters were naturally heading in this direction, thus had to write it this way?
TravelerOfTime
2022-03-11 10:37:48 +0000 UTCDid you actually have a girlfriend who thought your voice was soothing but was not listening? I ask because it’s hard to tell if it’s all your experience or stuff added to Jaune’s backstory, since a lot of the stuff he went through I experienced something similar (apart from the dating stuff). So I am inclined to believe that it could all be your experience as he is an SI character, but then again some authors change stuff about their SI characters backstory.

2022-03-11 09:57:04 +0000 UTCI can't help but notice that when Leecifer chooses a grim dark world he gets a grim and dark experience and when he picks a more lighthearted shonen world he gets a shonen experience with blackjack and hookers so maybe pick your poison better next time Leecifer

2022-03-11 09:29:50 +0000 UTCGood for Jaune. non con play is fine, but is 100% something you HAVE to talk about. Yang has some growing up to do. You might have struggled, but this was a great chapter. I can’t wait for the next one.
