The Waifu Thief Part 8

In Which I Shit-Talk Athena

Comments

Sorry, I should have said "one cannot LOGICALLY hold the two positions" My bad for not clarifying what I thought was obvious. Having said that, How is the argument that "...you'd be wrong, some people explicitly have all of those views..." a counter to my premise that people are inherently imperfect, that anything made by man would also be imperfect/flawed, if one accepts that "only God is perfect"? If SOME, not all/many/most but SOME, imperfect beings hold two inherently incompatible beliefs?

William H

You know with it being about shit talking athena i thought it would be about the idea floating around that she was one of the gods with the most kids since she just pops them into existence with her thoughts with whoever she was interested in at the time. That or the one since she goes for the smart type more likely she'd be prowling colleges for the smart people that are in the process of figuring out how their gonna take their paths and drop a kid on them outta nowhere after a bit of bonding but never the full jump into a relationship just skipping to the end with a kid.

Actually, kinda with other reader on that. I glossed over it cause I got what you meant a few lines in, but the actual sentence and phrase usage gave me a blue screen for a second cause I also didn’t think it made sense. Especially since I went to old school Baptist Church for years as a kid, probably.

Hestia is bestia in all worlds. And ya, Hera not being goddess of motherhood explains some shit.

so if i remember right, her father was basically just starting his teaching career when athena dropped her off. and you gotta admit, rick was kind of an asshole in how he implied her home life in the original series was during the first...2 books i believe. though if he was merely staying true to how she would've seen it, then it makes sense, as most kids i've met through the years go one of two ways with absentee parents, hyper attachment or resentment.

What was confusing is to bring up a religion that explicitly has Sin of the Father as part of it, has denominations that still explicitly preach that we are all damned, or that women are tainted due to their 'betrayal' with the fruit, and then say that it doesn't have those things. When you could just say that you don't believe in the sins of the father without ever mentioning Christianity.

Mr Crowley

That's Old Testament. New Testament goes 'Sins of the Father' is no longer a thing that exists. Technically, it's because while it was previously true, Jesus took on the burden we he died for mankind's sins, as Christianity seems to be a patched form of Judaism, according to the Christians, but short version is that, to most Modern Christians, blaming the kid for what their parents did is not acceptable, and I really don't see how this is as confusing as it seems to be. No idea what Catholicism espouses, but in pretty much every (Non-Catholic) Christian church I was dragged to as a kid, that's what was referred to by that phrase, the expanded version being 'The Sins of the Father are not the son's to bear."

Sorry but you'd be wrong, some people explicitly have all of those views. There are people who take every single position on the bible possible.

Mr Crowley

I don't think you can take an "all or nothing" stance on the Bible and hold "only God is perfect" as a tenant of belief. Assuming that you would, for the sake of argument, then the Bible, being written, translated, rewritten, and retranslates atleast a dozen times means it cannot be perfect. It could be the closest to perfect that man has crafted but it being inherently the interpretation of Perfection by an inherently imperfect being means it will be flawed. And that's before touching on the fact that it was written hundreds of years after anyone referenced in it was alive so there's generations of verbal telling and retelling before, IIRC, there was a conference of various sects of Chrisitanity got together to VOTE on what was officially transcribed as the Written Word. Again, IIRC, a story involving reincarnation didn't make it into the Bible by like 1 vote or something.

William H

Pretty much. Sort of confused me too. Man I really hope that the MC gets to ask some Christians about slavery and such, either the bible is all true, or its not. I was raised catholic, and that is basically exactly what I was taught about the sins of the father. Was only a few years ago that I looked at it objectively and decided that the Chirstian god is unworthy of worship if such an entity exists. Damn the Gods.

Eh, I’m with Anna’s Dad on the whole “Why the fuck should I be saddled with a kid I didn’t opt for?” Being an absentee father is absolutely not the worst thing that could’ve happened to her. Putting her into the adoption/orphan system would’ve been. What I got out of this is the man decided he could at least due the minimum while trying to get on with his life best he could…..and didn’t want to let Athena ruin his chance of having any actual control past that point. I also would’ve told Athena to suck tits and take the girl back. Also, wonder what position he was at in life when this all went down cause that would drastically change how someone reacts to the situation. I get some people like to say “Well, you’re the one in a position to help and therefore you MUST. But, uh, no I don’t.” EDIT: I don’t think it can really be overstated how much of a fucking cunt Athena is.

Really love this world line, MHA and DR are still my favorites but still glad you are doing Lightning Thief

Bit confused Lee, this part; Then again, I’m distinctly Christian in my take on that entire ‘sins of the father’ Isn't the entire point of Christianity that we were all damned to sin because Adam and Eve ate the fruit? So the bible functions on 'sins of the father.'

Mr Crowley

Edit unamused look, apologized again -> he apologized

Awesome to see more of this!
