Grrl Power #1283 - Feintception

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!
The true measure of a martial artist is how quickly you adapt to getting kicked in the face because your opponent has bendy bones.
No doubt Math has blocked hundreds of swings at his face, and is very secure in knowing the only way he's going to get hit when he does is if someone shatters their own bones to right-angle their shin at him. That said, he has definitely sparred with everyone on the team, including Mr. Amorphous, and he did scan that tablet with a bunch of pertinent anatomy information on it about his alien opponents, so he probably knew this was a possibility. It's still got to be at least a little surprising when it happens though.
Seriously, being able to plan ahead while getting whaled on is a skill that's probably fairly unpleasant to train. And yes, I looked it up, it's "whaled" not "wailed." "Wailed" means to cry, and "wale" means to mark with welts, so "Waling" on someone would probably make sense, but apparently "whale" mean to hit repeatedly. Maybe you could say "he waled on him with a belt" and that would be grammatically correct, but I'm sure it would confuse editors and most readers wouldn't notice or care.
Verbally dyslexic?

To be fair, since Math is not a biological super, the other way to hit him in the face is to shatter Math's arm bones which are only normal human strength.

See, all of this is why I find most anime tedious and overblown, and not in an amusing way.

Sydney, unless you're ready to put down the orbs and get in the fight pipe down and go back to your seat

Sydney is properly staying off the mat or Math could toss her into the pileup.

As was Math in that last move.

I get a feeling that like most brick types his actual offensive skills are pretty basic. He just has to hit someone once and the fight is over. Meanwhile everyone who attacks him is just bruising their knuckles. So he can wait it out.

Or at least completely outwits them.

Check out the second panel. Math is setting up Sylv by leaving his face open.

Teeth marks on the forearm in the last panel are going the wrong way. We should only be able to see the top row, and at 90 degrees to what's shown.
OTOH what's there is immediately recognized as bite marks. Just the top row might not be. Hmm. I suppose it's fine I'd it's deliberate.
EDIT: that IS just the top row, at the right angle. So was I wrong in the first place, or was it Frixed In Post.

It is a real problem. I love my anime, but, my attention span is not so short I need a ten minute recap in a thirty minute episode from the previous episode. Sigh.

So long as it doesn't go all One Piece, and take 30 episodes to do a single fight, with a solid third of each ep being a re-hash of the previous ep and every 7 or 8 eps being a recap ep. Hell, I don't think the fight against Kaido at the end of the Land of Wano arc was even that short.

So it's officially "Sylv" now? Because back when he was first introduced on #702, and when Cora said his name again on #762, it was "Slyv".

Math was just waiting for them to reveal their true potential before revealing his own. A classic case of he who moves first ends up coming last.

Ok, I should rephrase... I haven't HAD to use that move in over 30 years. I still practice it, just slower to keep the muscle memory intact...

Thanks for the spelling lesson, Dave. I'd seen the term in writing only once, and it was in a source that, while professional, didn't have the best editors, so they put it as "wailed."

Yeah, nobody who knew anything would line up and go after him one at a time like the bad guys in a kung fu movie. And the fact that Math stands there in the middle and waits for them all to attack at once means he believes he completely outclasses them

Watch an anime, Sydney. This one fight will go on for at least 10 more episodes, each episode someone revealing some new power or ability that was unknown beforehand

To be fair, all the martial artists start off by sandbagging their opponent Because they know they will be sandbagging them too... Whomever shows their full hand first is at a disadvantage because knowing (how to beat the other guy) is half the battle. The other half is applying that knowledge.
