[Art] The Admin Desk~!!

Hey y’all,

Welcome to the Administration Desk, located in the Administration Building of Oat Pi University!

The administration desk was originally part of an “Adventure" mode we were exploring very early on, which was a weird hybrid of first person RPG that didn’t work very well.

We ended up repurposing the scene as a way to introduce Summer, helping establish her character before blindsiding Bill and Kareen at the start of Chapter 2.

The original background didn’t feel like it supported the story. It felt more like a random room than a memorable space you had to go to, or had to meet someone like Summer, which is something I wanted to change.

Reworking the scene took a few attempts and a bit of experimentation to make it fit within the story. I ended up moving the camera closer to the administration desk, setting the focus of the scene where the story was taking place, and less on the room itself.

It was important to keep the doorway in the shot, so when the Admin Lady directs Bill into the corridor to Evelyn’s Office, you can imagine where the story is going next.

The new camera position also helped with limiting how much of the building I had to think about, letting me fill the background with little details about the University.

Buka helped with the bulletin board and poster textures, making it feel more like a University, and adding things that students might need, be inspired by, or created themselves.

Some are just silly jokes we made up, but others were jokes we’ve had in our Paizuri World Wiki for a while, so it was fun to finally use some of them.

I think there’s still room for improvement on this one, but I’m happy with the change and how it’s looking so far.
