Something Serious

Hello Patrons. I've got some serious stuff to say, so I'd appreciate you giving this a quick read! First off I want to say thank you all so much for your continued support of Philosophy Tube. Seriously, you are AMAZING and I cannot believe how fortunate I am to have this. Every day when I come home to my flat I try to remind myself that it is partially crowdfunded by you, and I wouldn't be living here without you amazing 400-ish people.

I graduate from drama school in September 2017. So far I've been getting along fine with support from another source making up what Patreon doesn't quite cover, but when I graduate I will be out on my own.

So you'll notice I've updated my Patreon goals: there's now one at $2200 a month, which reflects how much I calculate I would need to survive in London. It includes rent, food, bills, miscellaneous costs, the cost of making the show - the lot. If we make that (and assuming costs and exchange rates don't change drastically) then Philosophy Tube will be something I can live off exclusively.

Now hopefully I'll also be working as an actor. However, as I'm sure you know, actors very rarely find much work at all. In fact 69% of registered actors in the UK make less than £3000 a year from it. To put that into perspective, that wouldn't even sustain me for two months. Cruelly, being an actor also actually costs money: there are union memberships to pay, travel to and from auditions, yadda yadda yadda. I could get a job doing something else, maybe, but if that has to happen then I don't know what will happen to the show. And in fact that's what keeps me awake - the fact that *I don't know what might happen.*

You all know, I hope, that Philosophy Tube isn't about the money. In fact, with the fee I got from a sponsored video a while ago I'm planning on doing something that...well...it's a secret for now. But, this soon-to-change financial landscape is why the Patreon goals have been expanded.

Please don't feel you have to contribute anything more, as far as I'm concerned you're all far more generous already than I have any right to expect. If you know of a friend who might be up to supporting me, then it'd be cool of you to mention it to them, but like I said, no obligation. I just thought you all should be the first to know my financial situation and why there's now a new goal.
