"Politics is essentially violent." Interesting. If you had said "Politics is and always has been violent", I would've agreed without batting an eye, but why the phrasing "Essentially violent" which would imply that they can't be separated? Was that intended? The "If you want ??? you should obey the law" bit was your best bit of writing in a while :) I've had that discussion with right-wingers a couple of time and don't think I've ever been able to explain it in a way it convinced them to take a more critical view of state violence. It would be a challenge to write a book that aims to explain these concepts explicitly to conservatives. I wondered where you the nice video material from, the wine glass, the money shot (yes, pun intended)? Recently I had an idea for a video that might interest you to make. You know how in the sciences you can really call yourself “ready” for the job as a physicist or chemist or biologist after you learned certain basics, but in philosophy, you – probably – never even feel like you know that that much, because there is so much writing out there? The working question would be: “How much, and which philosophy does one need to know to consider oneself an expert in philosophy?”

2018-01-13 03:21:02 +0000 UTCAs someone who's long prided themselves on being 'rational' it's very constructive to have that challenged. I had no idea just how inadequate the word 'rational' really is without context and definition. I guess that explains how despite valuing rationality all along, my viewpoints and goals have changed dramatically. Really looking forward to the rest of the series.
