Thanks for the refresher. I think there may be some vagueness in your use of “ideal self”. At times I think you mean “an abstract, mental representation of the self”, but then you use it as “an ideation of a desired state of the self”. The former definition allows me to say things like, “I am not my body” while the latter allows me to compare my current self-state to other possible self-states and apply comparisons, desires, etc. Perhaps in either case, any ideal self would still be tied to a Platonic Good, which is not subject to the whims of society and culture.
