When Will Security Go Back to Normal? | Philosophy Tube

Here's a video I shot across three separate countries about the philosophy of security and how it's changed since 9/11. As you'll see it's tonally quite different from the Elon Musk one - less grand and more reflective than jokey - kindof like an old-school episode of the show only better. There's some consideration of the relationship between airports, security, and how we see time, too.

2018-09-15 00:00:00 +0000 UTCHi Olly, I just joined after your Elon Musk video, and I liked this one too. My one criticism is that you didn't cite the quote from "A Scanner Darkly." It's fair use, but a viewer could easily mistake Phillip K Dick's words for your own, and that doesn't feel right to me. Plus, it's such an abstract and stylized take on surveillance that it might just make many viewers wonder what kind of real-world "scanners" you're talking about.

I'm from Germany, but I visited New York just weeks before 9/11 when I was five, and have a now strange photo of me with the Twin Towers and some toy animals. I do remember them selling knife-sets on the plane, that you could just got during the flight (not sure if fabricated though)? Well, I also lived in Israel for some time, and I was quite shocked by the security culture and was worried Germany would implement similar things after the horrible Christmas Marked attack.

I remember the day after the Arena Bombing here in Manchester seeing the armed police patrolling St Anne's square and feeling a strong sense of disquiet. If something kicked off, what would they do? Would they be protecting me or would I just cop for a stray bullet?
