I've thought about that a lot, as well, over my life. On the one hand, I believe in radical bodily autonomy, and in an ideal world, that would include the absolute right to decide when your own life should end, rather than continue living because of someone else's religious. scruples. On the other hand, we do not live in an ideal world. And disabled people have their bodily and cognitive autonomy denied and ignored. How can we ensure that any decision to end their life is their own, and not that of a "caregiver," who's decided that their care has become inconvenient?

I decided to watch the original cosmonaut video and then this one back-to-back in one sitting. This was a poor decision. Should've spaced it really, it was really a double-whammy gut punch. Still, thanks for sharing your story. Understanding is a huge deal. Something I wonder, how relevant is the philosophical discussion about suicide to the topic of euthanasia? For example consider Dignitas, where people go to commit suicide; most typically people with incurable degenerative diseases who think it isn't worth living if they can't... well... live I guess? Not sure how to phrase it, is it about quality of life? For example those who have Motor Neurone Disease (which Stephen Hawking had) may choose to die while they're in control of their body for fear of not being in control of it later. An argument for assisted suicide in this manner may be that it forces people to ask themselves "are you sure?".

Hey, I pledged to your Patreon because of this video and I just want to say that it was really eye-opening for me. I've kept a blog for the past 10 years or so, and after watching your video, I went back and re-read a lot of it through the lens of "What kind of ideas did this relationship plant in my head? How did I let them grow?" and I found it really clarifying. I've done a lot of dealing with my trauma but I feel like this helped me be more aware of how to know when it's happening. The video was also an extremely effective and powerful work of art on its own, so thank you so much for making it. :)
