Well, here it is! My biggest, boldest video yet!

It's a full-on musical about the philosophy of language, and it's also my coming out video - surprise!

Hope you enjoy it!

Are you going to make the songs available by themselves? They're amazing on their own!

Re: "Sticking to your own kind" {Bleurgh!} When I was an undergrad, back in the '80s. there was this guy frequently around campus (he was the son of one of the school's admin staff), who was a paraplegic wheelchair user, and also absolutely aesthetically gorgeous, and studying to be a lawyer. And there were two young women in my dorm who were kind of infatuated with him. But rather than ask him out (or even venturing to talk to him) themselves, they kept pressuring me and my other dorm mate who also has cerebral palsy to date him... because "we had so much in common" (When the only thing we had in common was being disabled -- with different disabilities). -- And then, there's the whole issue of able-bodied people who fetishize disability, which I wouldn't have a *big* problem with, if it weren't so often based on the popular misconception that disabled people are "like innocent, perpetual, children." :-P

Truly awesome, thought provoking, entertaining and challenging- you are a rare and dazzling person.

Psychoanalysts are kinda famous for deciding everything's about sex :) I think I'm more thrown by the disability is a death drive bit - I like the death drive concept, the idea that people might not be all about the personal growth is what sets psychodynamic types apart in my experience, but I'm a bit wtf here. But its going to be a while before I have the ability to get through her entire paper to try and grapple with this. I spent 10 years dating while disabled, albeit mine are invisible, so yeah, I've had some er, interesting responses (my favourite is probably the one who advised me "stock to my own kind"; this from someone bame and working in the nhs. Lovely) I have genital disabilities and I'm "out" about them (because so many people go through vulval health issues that are poorly, or never, diagnosed and treated and the main thing that improves access to that is the information being available as publically as possible and for that the media love a personal narrative) so I get a lot of the "but can you even *have* sex? and intended to be helpful but actually not at all suggestions as to what to do!

*returns fistbump* ...I had to go back and reread the reference to Mollow. And, m'yeah, but No. I can totally see how Disability Studies and Queer Studies are intertwined, but my wee Ace/Aro heart thinks Mollow is giving sex *way* too much credit for its power in the human experience. Though part of me thinks disability is actually inherently Queer. I've seen reactions similar to those Olly describes in Straight guys to the idea of dating Trans women, only the reaction is to visibly disabled people having sex, especially with an able-bodied partner.... even if the sex, itself, is as straight and vanilla as a vanilla bean.

disability/being over the age of the average demographic here fistbump! That was an interesting read, thank you. I'm not sure I understood the Mollow bit so I will probably read the paper at some point; even as someone who did psychoanalysis i occasionally get a bit "good grief do you deliberately complicate things?!" with them

Preface: lovin' the new icon -- you look good in happy sparkles. When I was in high school, and contemplating college, it was a coin flip on whether I would study literature/communications, or "Peace Studies." If Queer Theory had been available, back then, I probably would have taken at least one class, because it basically combines the two. ... And I would have realized I was Not!Straight 30 years ago, instead of 3... Queer Time, indeed.

I was just going to make a similar comment; I'm glad I scrolled down to see if someone got there before me. I don't suffer from chronic pain, but as someone with a physical disability, I still need help getting dressed, and I need to wear a diaper in bed (even though, from doing the math, I'm probably about the same age as Olly's mother), so the markers between childhood go all wibbly wobbly. Also, the word "queer" has its own entry in the book _Keywords in Disability Studies_: https://keywords.nyupress.org/disability-studies/essay/queer/

I've watched this video multiple times. I'm finding it very uplifting when I need a pick me up. Thanks for sparking an interest in queer theory 💕

Bisexuality has never been this cool. After this video I could no longer justify being a Patron for Contrapoints but not for PhilosophyTube. Keep it up.

I promised myself that I would only support people who were queer and/or not white and so this video vindicated my choice to become a patron of yours! Also, my kid who is 12 and questioning absolutely loved watching this video with me!!

Thank you for this video, it really came in a difficult moment of my life- after a life of privilege of being out as kinky, poly and bi, I started a new job in the most toxic and sexist place ever and I am forced in the closet and far from my queer friends. You made me feel those queer vibes again a little 💖💜💙 On the bright side, now I have money to support your wonderful work 😊

Hey, where I can throw my money to get your musical numbers alone? :D

As an aside since all the really key issues like papacy have been covered ;) - time comes up in disability and chronic illness too. Crip time; https://dsq-sds.org/article/view/5824/4684 (and as a real tangent offof that it may extra amuse you to know there's a paper in that publication from a researcher who specifically focuses on the relationship between chronic pain and kink. Naturally they are queer because all the best people are)

I very much enjoyed the video, even if I didn't get a chance to sit down and see it as quickly as I would have wanted. But a pleasure deferred is in no way a pleasure lessened. I'm glad to see you continue to add more performance to your video. With acting as near and dear to your heart is it is, doing so allows you to engage more of your whole self in the production, which from a creative and expressive point of view is very much a good thing.

You will be gratified to know that being bisexual does not disqualify you from being Pope. Being Pope does require you to be celibate (technically - there have been an awful lot of non-celibate popes over the centuries) but the sort of sexual desires you have is neither here nor there. Historically, "bisexual", "homosexual", and "heterosexual" were not regarded as separate states of being. Sexual acts were classified according to the participants and the physical activities involved, but the idea that people have sexual identities is a modern one that doesn't feed into historical ideas about the Catholic priesthood and papacy. No, I wouldn't worry about your bisexuality regarding your ability to become Pope. The fact that you're not a Catholic, on the other hand, is a real deal-killer; but on the positive side, you can change that any time you want should you ever so desire.
