Behind the Scenes Pics - 'Capital Punishment'
Added 2021-02-26 18:51:40 +0000 UTCHello lovely Patrons!
We just wrapped on my next episode, Capital Punishment (& Prison Abolition). Here are some pictures from the set!

I'll be talking about some actual legal cases in British history, so the vibe was 'Professional Lawyer'

I decided to branch out a little and actually hired a stylist, Brian Conway, to help me put the outfits together. We settled on this asymmetrical jumpsuit with a simple jacket and some surprisingly comfortable shoes! The clothes all go back to the supplier once the shoot is done - don't worry, I'm not spending your money on designer fits lol!

I do like a nice suit jacket, but I was nervous because some people get angry when they see trans women in tailoring. I decided bollocks to them - I have a friend who is a cis lawyer and she wears tailored suits all the time, so I can too! Also I've got stately broad shoulders, so why not make an asset of them?

If you've seen my video on Amy Coney Barrett you might recognise that gavel - it was used by Doctor Bucephalus and Ian N. Drivel!

The spoon is a recurring visual metaphor throughout the episode - you know how I love those lol

We returned to the same venue where we shot Identity and Sex Work, mainly because I love the stage and the leather wingback chair lol. Shooting on a stage gives the shots a nice depth that I enjoy

And this is the second look! It's an update of one last seen in seen Charles Darwin Vs Karl Marx, but now in Female. I brought back makeup artist Camille Nava to accomplish it!

I sent Brian the brief for the episode and said I was interested in asymmetry, in gloves, maybe in some trailing fabrics and something round my neck... "An evening at the theatre, but half of you is dead." After trying a few dresses we settled on this black one with a sheer train, and then I was like, "Go on, let's have the ruffs as well!" I topped it off with stiletto nails on the thumbs. There were some absolutely killer shoes to go with it, which perhaps you'll see in the video! There's something I love about wearing a dress and a suit in the same video haha.

As the title implies I'll be talking about Capital Punishment, Retributivism Vs Consequentialism, and then phasing that into a discussion about prison abolition. So it's not all glam: there's some good technical philosophy to sink your teeth into!

I'm excited for this video! It's my first full episode since coming out so I'm keen to play it pretty straight down the middle - nothing too meta or fancy, some good solid philosophy - just so people are reassured that whilst I might have changed this is still the Philosophy Tube you know and love. Just seeing stills like this you might get the impression that it's more glam than it really is; technically speaking it's actually quite a simple one. I'll edit it together as quick as I can - you can expect some screenshots in the next few days, and $15+ patrons will get to see it a little early. I hope it'll be out for everybody next week.
