BTS Pics: "Social Constructs"
Added 2021-06-30 19:26:22 +0000 UTCHello lovely Patrons! We just wrapped on my next episode, working title Social Constructs. Thank you so much for your patience while I've been in Romania filming a TV series - it's a busy life, haha! This episode is going to be well worth the wait!

It took some doing, but I hired a fantastic location for this episode! A fully equipped motor garage, the very same one that Edd China uses to film his famous Workshop Diaries! (My Dad is a huge fan!)

It was a very early start for me, up at 0530 to get in the makeup chair by 0900!

This time we were joined by makeup artist Gloria Peñaranda, who did an amazing job crafting three subtly different looks in one day!

As the title implies this episode is about Social Constructs. The script is one of the most technical and difficult I've written in a while - we'll be tackling some seriously cutting-edge metaphysics!

Stylist Brian Conway returned to bring the outfits! We call these looks "Fashion Mechanic" - he took the brief I gave him and brought back three different versions, so naturally I decided to use them all!

This one is my favourite, mainly because it was the warmest!

The research phase of this video was a tough one. The bibliography is pretty broad and varied, and it was a great challenge to turn such dense material into digestible, entertaining bits!

Somehow I managed to avoid breaking my ankle in these things!

I feel like Brian and I hit a really nice balance with this outfit: it's sexy enough to be fun without it being too distracting from the content or too indecent to be used in an educational setting

These shots under the car on the "creeper" (that's what they call the rolling thing you lie on) were tough, but we got 'em! My shoulders ache!

Another thing I really like about this episode is that most of the philosophy I'm discussing is contemporary: a lot of is really modern stuff. It's cool to be able to talk about the latest developments in the field!

Look number three! And a very special co-star to go with it...

A 1966 Ford Mustang! There just happened to be one in the shop today, and as soon as I saw it I was like, "Oh hell yeah."

Apparently it's actually really difficult to light a shot inside a car! Especially when your car, outfit, and actress are all pale!

There's actually a whole genre of YouTube videos that's just "person in their car talking" so I was pleased to be able to dial that up to 11 in my usual way!

Here's me at the end of a long day, just checking we definitely got all the lines before we pack up!

Vroom Vroom!
This episode is going to be a banger, I can tell! I will start editing tomorrow. I also have a week's holiday booked starting the day after (I need it! My first holiday since February 2020!) so fingers crossed this episode will be out by the 9th of July, or possibly the week after if it's a tricky edit! I'll have screenshots for you soon!

You look like you're having *so* much fun. (But I had a moment, reading the headline, when I thought you were talking about K-pop.)
