I Emailed My Doctor 133 Times: The Crisis In the British Healthcare System

NEW EPISODE IS HERE!

I spent SO LONG on this one and I just want to say another big thank you to all of you patrons: your pledges made it all happen. The research, the fact checking, the script consultants, the looks - this is what video essays are all about and I can't thank you enough!

I really hope you enjoy it and that it's educational!

I just joined the patreon from this one! It really hit me how much you put into this show while I would just watch it for free. The parallel of Trans healthcare in the NHS with Catch 22 was PERFECT! As soon as I saw "Yossarian" pinned to your outfit I laughed out loud. Thank you for all the work you do!!

Incredible work as always!!!

I don't work in healthcare, but in a different institution which serve the public, and is also incredibly dysfunctional and shockingly failing to achieve humane outcomes, with people being harmed or dying as a result. Everything you say here is painfully familiar.

I could list the things I am, and the things I'm not here. Cis or Trans, Gay or Straight, Black or White, all the constructs one could think of. I could list that I think pineapple on pizza is an abomination and that those people should be relegated to fringes of society as the maniacs they are... HOWEVER, the one thing I would like to list, is that I'm a human... I think thats the hard part for some people, and most institutions to recognize. Thats what hurts. Thats what makes us pick up our hammers and give Into our dark impulses. This work of yours boils down to that for me. It's a valuable discussion and frankly it's about goddamn time. Thank you for the effort and understanding you put into your work. Thank you for standing up against an injustice. Thank you for starting a conversation on how inept institutions can be at acknowledging someone's humanity. Thank you for showing yours.

This video was astounding. Had to become a patron after that.

This video was so GOOD. I rarely watch 1,5 hours of anything without breaks and just completely hooked and mesmerized. You pulled it off. The content, the form, the pacing, the tone. Just, BRAVA!! So happy to be a patreon. Easily one of your best ever. Also that messy hair look - incredibly cute :)

As a trans person who lives in California and has benefitted greatly from the informed consent model of trans care, becoming a patron after watching this video was a non-decision.

Great video and very recognizable, as trans healthcare in the Netherlands is handled also quite… meh. And funny random shoutout to my employer by the way, greetings from a fellow traiNSgender xD

Thank you so much for this video Abigail. It has provided much needed encouragement, at just the right time. I'm a union delegate for the largest health service where I live, and a cause we are currently negotiating, would enshrine paid gender transition leave in the agreement for all workers of my classification. It is only 10 days leave, and of course it's only *words in a document*, which we know all about! Nevertheless this video really steeled me, I've been the only delegate to speak to and about this claim during the whole negotiation (day long, weekly meetings for +4 months) it's been daunting! I know I've just got to keep going y'know. Any way, Thank you, it's a superb essay, I'm so sorry you had to go through so much to make it.
